What item is right for you?

Ask our Experts!

Have you ever wished that your lens could focus closer than it does? Imagine that you could put a magnifying glass in front of your camera's lens. Close-up lenses work in this fashion and are the simplest and least expensive method of close-up photography. They are available in different "powers" (diopters). A +1 close-up lens will allow you to focus your lens somewhat closer than it already does. A +2 close-up lens will allow you to focus closer than the +1. A +4 lens will allow you to focus even closer than a +2, and so on. These lenses can be used individually or in any combination to achieve ultra-close focus. The maximum magnification achieved with these attachments will depend on the focal length of your lens as well as the actual close focusing capability of that particular lens.

This kit consists of a +1, +2, and +4.

NOTE: A +1 combined with a +2 will equal a +3, while a +2 combined with a +4 will equal a +6, and so on.

Single close up lenses (+1,+2 or +4 diopter) work well, but stacking them for even closer work leads to poor image quality. Perhaps this is asking too much for this mid value set. If you want better images, try an aspheric close up lens - but you'll pay more

First pay attention when you screw them on filter adapter. It is really difficult to remove them.
Good price performances for amateur usage.

Comments about Hoya 67mm Close-up Kit (+1,+2,+4) Lens:

I bought these to go on my 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR and I really like the quality. The case it comes with is a soft case with pockets and is both good and bad. Good because it is well designed and easy to use, but it is bigger than the usual cases and since it is soft I feel like if something hit it or landed on it that it might break the lenses. But overall a great set.

I'm starting to get into macro photography so I decided to buy this kit to try and do some macro even with my usual 18-105 lens. The kit does exactly what you see in the picture and works very well. I've yet to find something wrong with the lenses; the only thing I noticed they don't seem to be so firmly attacched to their frame, they are slightly loose but it may be a problem with my kit.

I was talked into these over extension tubes by a local photo shop. They didn't have any in stock that day so I picked them up online.

I've been very happy with the close up flower/insect shots I've been able to get with these on the front of my lens.
I had a panic the first day when the +2 became stuck to my UV filter and have learned since to either not stack them or not screw the close up lens on very tightly at all.
