This is the Matthews RoadRags Kit. Matthews RoadRags are a portable lighting modification system that helps you to quickly and easily duplicate studio lighting effects on location, using your portable lights. The elastic corded frames easily fold for storing and transporting. A simple "flick of the wrist" is all that's required to quickly open the frame making it ready to use.
By using the different materials, you are able to quickly create contrasts, different light ratios, diffusion or block the light. The RoadRags Kit fits easily into most lighting kits. Additional fabrics are available separately.

I have been using the flags to control light during my portrait shoots. Awesome! I bought the Matthews arms as well.
Great product.
Too expensive is my gripe.

So these are not durable. Yes they seem like good scrims and flags but when just nudged and not hard the polls will snap at the point where they meet the union. This isn't such a fun thing to have happen for professional grade equipment. They do easily fit together and seem of decent quality apart from breaking... These would be a poor choice for outdoor use.

Comments about Matthews RoadRags Kit - 18 x 24" (45.7x61cm):
This is a great kit as it is compact and offers a lot of what you would need to enhance and influence the lighting during a shoot. It is super light weight and can fit pretty much anywhere in an existing equipment bag. The screens are good quality. They could possibly be more rugged but for the price you really can't go wrong
I recommend this kit to anyone but especially someone doing smaller/traveling productions. These are great to use with fresnels. I use this for film and video shoots and it works wonderfully.

We do a lot of run and gun work and only have a small studio, so when it came to finding a proper light modifier kit, we really didn't want to big ourselves down with the contents of a 1 ton grip truck. I first heard of this kit from Stillmotion and how they are able to fly around the world with an interview lighting kit that all fits into a suitcase.
This is a great discovery and is well worth the price. We have already brought it on a small narrative shoot and it did wonders. Obviously the modifier size leaves a bit to be desired, but I can't complain that much when it collapses to a size and weight that you can barely notice carrying.
I wish they doubled up on silks and frames. I'll have to get another one of these kits in the near future :-)

It's a great system the help you bring around light modifiers when you don't have the space for full sized grip gear. The size of the frames leave much to be desired, but for the size and weight, it can't be beat.

This is an ideal set of light modifiers for the small or single man crew. Slips into my rolling light bag and gives me greater control over my 1x1 LED lights and 150w fresnel.

Previously I was using large diffusion panels along with large black flags; these make life much easier especially if you're traveling! 18x24 fits most of my needs for close up/medium shots. These are fast to set up and break down as well - highly recommended to control your light. These have made it way easier for me to move around and can be held up by lightweight light stands.
IF you're looking to use the diffuser for multiple subjects or need to flag out lights for a larger space, I'd recommend going with the larger kit.

This ultra-portable flags and silk kit is great for lighting interviews. The frame snaps together like tent poles, and the the flags have no seam across the top, which allows them to be used to partially block light without leaving a shadow. They're made for traveling.
This kit would be perfect if it had one more silk - I find myself wanting to use two silks more often than two flags. Other than that, perfect.

I like this product, it's worth the cost. It's not as sturdy as I'd hoped but It does the job. I use it often. You should be careful when using it because the rods break rather easily.

I subtract a star for the high price they charge, but no one else is making such a compact, on-the-go product, so I bought it. I don't use it often but I like all the options it offers when needed.

We were looking for a small, light weight and ultra portable flag kit to replace our huge portfolio bags. We put this together with a lightweight "c-stand" (just a medium light stand with a grip head) and it does wonders. The little carry case that comes with it is perfect.

Comments about Matthews RoadRags Kit - 18 x 24" (45.7x61cm):
The RoadRags Kit provides a convenient way to help control the lighting on set. The standard kit comes with two scrims, a flag and a diffusion silk. Each cloth piece slides on to a collapsable frame which then mounts to any standard C-Stand head or other clamping apparatus. Everything folds up and is stored in a small, lightweight bag that's easy to throw in with the rest of your lighting an grip gear. The kit is fairly sturdy and can be expanded by adding additional cloths. The only negative I would comment on is that it seems a little pricy. However, it is made by Matthews and I suspect will last a long time; if that's the case, the price is fair.

This kit along with Matthews minigrip arms fit nicely in our Arri D-4 kit where the stands used to be. We've used them on three shoots so far and in tight quarters they offer great light control.
Big enough to help soften a Keno-flo Diva and soft enough to control open face instruments.
Downside is that the kit only comes with one of each silk, scrim or flag. We'll end up buying multiples for the kit. That's extra.

Comments about Matthews RoadRags Kit - 18 x 24" (45.7x61cm):
I've been using flags for as long as I've been shooting. I don't always need them, but when I do need one, it's great to have one on hand. Having a portable / collapsible flag and scrim system in a self-contained bag is wonderful. Being able to change out the fabrics, having two frames and the compactness of it all speaks for itself. The quality of each component is as high as one would expect from Matthews (MSE). This is my second Road Rags kit, the first being the Matthews Road Flags 4x4 Kit.
I no longer have to tote around a piece of cardboard and finagle a way to mount it to a stand. Assembling the frame and fabric happens quite easily, and once mounted into to a proper mount, you can put this flag just about anywhere. Now that I've used this on several shoots, I've also noticed that I am more apt to automatically set up a flag, instead of just winging it. In the past I often just got by, hand holding a piece of cardboard, or any improvised object I could find, even using my hand when I had to.
If you need to flag your lens, or cut some light from the subject, this is a great system. There's just nothing else out there.

Small & lightweight this lives in my light kit and is used on almost every shoot. Have added the sliver reflector to the kit (overpriced) to make it even more useful.
Needs the mini-grip kit to make the most of it
