These are century c-stands and they do work, but for the money they don't come close to the Impact century c-stands that I have. Comparing these to the Impact c-stands the Impact stands use larger diameter posts (read heavier) for the bottom post that attaches to the base. The Impact stand has the locking ring to lock the legs at the base, the Matthews does not. The Impact stands are more substantial and appear to be better made. Since the price for the Matthews and the Impact are almost identical, in the future I will buy more Impact c-stands.

Comments about Matthews Hollywood Century C Stand Grip Arm Kit - 10.5' (3.2m):
This stand is the most useful product to have. You can use it for so many things, holding a bounce card, silk, or background, or just having a second hand to hold something.

Comments about Matthews Hollywood Century C Stand Grip Arm Kit - 10.5' (3.2m):
This Century C Stand, is in an awesome value for the cost!! Right out of the box you can feel the weighty build quality...solid, heavy, tight, and has a precision feel to the movement of the locking mechanisms, and the adjustment of the stand members. The ball clamps at the boom and riser tip, release easy and have a firm locking grip. The handles that lock the ball clamps are purposely oversized for better leverage on setting lock and release states. The free sliding C leg is simple to manuever and lock in place, and helps on uneven surfaces or unavailable floor space. So that means you could set the front (2) locking legs down, with the stand tight against a kitchen table and slide the 3rd leg up high enough to set on top of the kitchen table. There's a hundred uses for the moving riser sliding leg.
I am an indoor/outdoor portrait photographer, the stand works great in both enviroments. The solid heavy nature of the stand allows it to hold steady in windy situations. It's a bit weighty to lug around for on site field shoots, but well worth the effort.
I will buy as many more Matthews "C" Stands as necessary. I'm sold on their technology, quality, concept, and design.

It's not the light you've got, it's what you do with it. And for almost any tasks, a C-stand will help you get it done.

Comments about Matthews Hollywood Century C Stand Grip Arm Kit - 10.5' (3.2m):
I've used quite a few of Matthews' C-stands, and their most recent redesign is the best yet. The bottom leg is fixed, the middle is spring loaded, and the top slides up and down for stairs, speaker cabinets, etc. The welds on the legs are as good as on most bicycle frames. Fortunately my vehicle is large enough that I don't need to spend more on the turtle base version, but I do recommend detaching the grip arm and heads before transport. Otherwise people tend to lift the whole thing by the grip arm, which can put a slight bend in it over time. I also recommend getting a 5/8" stud pin so you can hang a light fixture when up and over is the only way to go.

Grips always say a c-stand is the first step to a lighting set-up. I rely on Matthews brand because of the quality, durability, and life.
When it comes to a c-stand, this is the one I would use over all other brands because I can trust this machine to keep my equipment and, more importantly, my people safe.

As a professional Videographer, I value Light and that which controls it. Nothing holds a flag like this stand. Like Brian Williams on SNL this stand refuses to break under pressure. It's T-handles are solid as the steel that they're forged from and the Grip Arm's grip has Schwarzenegger like strength. With a solid sand bag on the tall leg this C Stand is sure to outlast you, your family, and your family's undertaker. "Solid as a Rock" has got nothing on "solid as a Hollywood Century C Stand Grip Arm Kit".

The same price - or less than Avenger. Its a real Matthews C-Stand! These will hold fresnels, HMI's, or whatever you want to rig on them.
I am sometimes surprised to find that many pro as well as new videographers don't have these in their grip arsenal. Yeah, they are big and heavy... but that is the point. Put your light on this and it won't be moving unexpectedly on you. The Combo arm is one of my top 5 inventions of all time. Set that light or bounce just right... rig it to hold whatever you need in whatever position you need it.
Really - if you know, I don't ned to tell you. If you don't know about these... you NEED one!

I bought a bunch of grip stands to augment my video blog studio and location equipment. The Matthews brand has been around forever and with good reason, they set the standard. This units are rugged, simple, and work every time. I've hung all kinds of things off them and never have a problem. They get roughed up and keep standing.
