I purchased this a few years ago for my 8MP camera. I am a professional photographer and needed a cheaper lens for personal, everyday use. I knew that based on the price this was not a professional quality lens so I was not expecting the same quality of a $1,000 glass but I was at least expecting usable images. The soft focus of the lens was not only noticeable it rendered nearly every photo unusable. Now that I have upgraded to a 12mp camera, putting the lens on that new camera makes for even worse images because the bad focus is amplified with higher image resolution. The blur is not as bad at 70mm but once you get to 200-300 the images are grainy and very out of focus. When the lens arrived, I became worried there was a problem with my camera so I tried other lenses I owned. In my test, I setup a focus grid (series of lines to test focus) and placed the camera on a tripod. I took photos at multiple zoom lengths and f-stops. All the lenses I had made for good images except this lense. Every image was out of focus and popping the lens into manual proved to be fruitless.Additionally along with the horrible focus of the lens, autofocus is slow and noisy. When having to change focus a lot, expect to drain your battery quickly as this lens is a powerhog. The lens also seems to get confused easily and will shift focus from near to infinity for no reason.I don't even want to think about how many photos I have had to trash all because of this lens.On the plus size, the lens does look beefy and the big rubber grips and size turns some heads but outside of looking good on the outside, the stuff that matters on the inside is simply not there. If you are considering this lens, save up and little longer and get something better. Otherwise you run the risk of having a nice lens shaped paperweight. I have considered selling mine as it has not been used in a long time but I feel bad selling something that is so poorly made.

Image quality is pretty good. However w/o image stabilization you would need a tripod in all but sunny conditions.

Note that this version of the lens is different from the 70-300 Macro. This is the 75-300, and the macro is 1:3.9 (0.26x), vs the 1:2 of the 70-300 (0.5x)

Comments about Tamron Zoom Telephoto AF 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 LD Macro AF Lens:

Last fall I purchased a Canon XSI kit which included an 18-55 mm lens, and I purchased a 50mm 1.8 f to go along with it for portraiture. Both are great lenses.

What I lacked was a lens with the ability to get close-up from a distance. Candid photography is what I like best to do, and this lens is awesome for that purpose. I use it at social gatherings, sporting events--any situation in which I want to be as unnoticed as possible.

I am impressed with the fact that it isn't as heavy as it looks, and that the focus and output are sharp. Even in windy conditions, I'm ending up with clear shots, and this without the image stabilizing feature.

The only thing that hasn't been up to my hopes and expectations is the fact that the zoom ring is really stiff.

All things considered, I would buy this lens again and I'd recommend it to others, as well.

I have been using this lens for a couple of days now and I am super surprised by the results I am getting!

I have no idea what people are talking about when they say that when it's fully zoomed, it gets grainy. It's clearer than crystal!

Amazing lens for an amazing price.

Comments about Tamron Zoom Telephoto AF 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 LD Macro AF Lens:

Well, first off, if you are shooting on a sunny day, then your pictures won't be as bad. But, I have to shoot in many low-light conditions, and objects that move fast, this lens has trouble in the day time to get a decent shutter speed, much less at night. For some reason, this lens does not let in much light, One day, it was sunny, I had to use 1/400 F/5.6 ISO400 to get a decent exposure, at 3 PM. It claims to be a macro lens, but there is no Macro switch.

Now onto focusing. If you have time to get your shot ready, hold the shutter half-way down to activate AF, then go read a newspaper, then come back when it finally decides to focus. It will scroll through the entire focus range, then back again before it will lock on to anything, which will waste a good 5-6 seconds, and it is LOUD, and gets easily tricked by "foreign" objects entering the field of sight, then scrolls through once, then twice, then locks on. I have missed hundreds of spectacular shots due to the slow focus, which in the end costs me money.

It does have consistent output. Very Soft and grainy.

I am trying my hardest to find any good thing about this lens, but I can't think of anything, because there really is nothing positive about it.

Save your money, buy a Canon 70-200 f/4 L - I am buying it tonight to replace the Tamron. You will be much happier with your outcome if you save your money and buy anything but this. a Canon 55-250 IS would be a good substitute for this, being only 350 bucks, plus you get IS, and it's Canon.

Comments about Tamron Zoom Telephoto AF 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 LD Macro AF Lens:

I use this telephoto almost all of the time.
I like the zoom when it zooms into a particular object. It is clear and in focus when I push the expose button halfway down.
I do not like how heavy it is compared to the 18-55mm.

It's light, attaches quickly and gives you a consistent picture with bright lighting. If you're indoors or a very cloudy day you'll be disappointed. For sports, outdoor events or wildlife I like this lens alot.
