I actually bought this to be able to put my lens right up to the glass at aquariums. This past weekend at the Monterey bay aquarium it worked great! This cut down on the glare the glass would reflect back at you. It also worked well as a regular lens hood. However, I don't like it threading into the lens as this makes putting it on and off harder. Also there are no threads on the inside so if you want to add a filter you have to take the hood off and then put the filter on and replace the hood. This makes it harder to use as a hood than the stock plastic hoods from Nikon.

I saw someone with one of these on a tour, i liked the idea and so i got one.

What appealed was the fact that with this screwed into a polariser, you can turn the polariser with the lens hood on, quite simply.

I also liked the idea of the soft rubber, as my photography is very active and i carry 2 bodies and the lens hood always takes a beating.

The problem... when you put the camera down with the lens attached, the rubber hood bends... this is also a problem when its stuffed into my over stuffed photo bag/s... over a very short period of time it can become bent out of shape so badly that it starts to vignette (you can bend it back into shape while you miss your shot if you like this style of photography).

About day 3 of my recent safari i found it making problems on my 70-200 and when i discovered i did not bring the original with me i was pretty disappointed, when i got home i put back my Nikon lens hood and tossed this one in the back of my cupboard.

Comments about Hoya 77mm Screw-In Rubber Zoom Lens Hood for 35mm to 200mm Lenses:

I used this for a couple weeks shooting sporting events. Took a while to initially get it seated in my B+W polarizer, but eventually got it. Very solid mounting: 5 marks! Would not recommend moving it from filter to filter.

Unfortunately, the 77mm caps for my 70-200 (old style cap) and 24-105 (new style cap) both fall off when I gently place this in my bag. The rubber is very high quality, very flexible, all of which is a good thing - but the Canon caps don't securely hang on. Hence, this will remain a secondary item, for specific events only.

Comments about Hoya 77mm Screw-In Rubber Zoom Lens Hood for 35mm to 200mm Lenses:

Wanted a collapsible hood to go onto a telephoto lens to provide some flare protection and dew control for long exposures. I was pleased at how securely the rubber is attached to the screw ring, something that is missing in other hoods. The hood has different positions, I've only used it compressed for travel (where it forms a nice cushion) and fully extended.

Comments about Hoya 77mm Screw-In Rubber Zoom Lens Hood for 35mm to 200mm Lenses:

I really like the Hoya rubber zoom lens hood... so much so, that have purchased one for each of my 4 Nikon-mount lenses. I prefer these screw-in hoods over the included bayonet type hoods, because they attach to and allow using (turning) a circular polarizer filter. Also, I appreciate being able to roll back the hood to adjust for differing zoom lengths and for compact travel.

Perfectly good lens hood but you're paying for the name whereas several generic brands make the same thing for a fraction of the price. I ended up returning this one ($[$]at the time of this review) and getting a nearly identical model for $5. There was a slight difference in the shape of the bulb portion on the generic model but that had no impact on photos.

Does what I expect a lens hood to do. I use it on a 28-70mm Tokina and don't get any vignetting even with the hood fully extended and the lens at its widest angle. The rubber is softer than I expected, so it's a little difficult to mount the first time and becomes deformed slightly when the camera is set down, but neither is a real problem. It's much better than the petal type hood I had, and lets me use a circular polarizer now since I can rotate the entire hood.

Comments about Hoya 77mm Screw-In Rubber Zoom Lens Hood for 35mm to 200mm Lenses:

I've been using this hood on a Nikkor 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6 lens for the past year and it works very well for me. The hood has 2 positions: collapsed works for the widest angle (28mm) with no noticeable vignetting, or extended for everything past 35mm or so. It's easy to pop it in/out and has been quite durable for me. A downside to it is that any snap-on lens cap comes off very easily. However, I just leave the hood on all the time and forgo the cap. The hood has provided ample protection from bumps & bangs and protects the front element well even when collapsed. When using a polarizer, I put the filter on first then screw the hood on next, works fine. It is bulkier than the supplied plastic hood when stored in my camera bag but its not objectionable because it's flexible enough to fit as needed.

Comments about Hoya 77mm Screw-In Rubber Zoom Lens Hood for 35mm to 200mm Lenses:

I've used these for years and they last a long, long time. Very well made.

Quite practical since they can be used from about a 35mm lens to a 200mm. I like using it when shooting through a polarizer (one with front threads on it), because I can just turn the whole lens hood / polarizer and don't have to take off a big plastic lens hood just to adjust the polarizer, and then put it back on.

The Hoya brand hood is definitely one of the best, worth a few extra bucks over the generic brands.

Need it for basketball and it does what it should. Wish it was a little firmer, but no real issues.

A straight forward, adjustable rubber hood. Works well, but FF lenses with shorter than about 28mm focal length will vignette. It has one "joint" for adjustment, but it would be more flexible if it had two.

Comments about Hoya 77mm Screw-In Rubber Zoom Lens Hood for 35mm to 200mm Lenses:

I actually bought this to be able to put my lens right up to the glass at aquariums. This past weekend at the Monterey bay aquarium it worked great! This cut down on the glare the glass would reflect back at you. It also worked well as a regular lens hood. However, I don't like it threading into the lens as this makes putting it on and off harder. Also there are no threads on the inside so if you want to add a filter you have to take the hood off and then put the filter on and replace the hood. This makes it harder to use as a hood than the stock plastic hoods from Nikon.
