This arm is strong enough to hold shoe-mount flashes at all angles, yet flexible enough to position them there. It has a 1/4"-20 threaded socket at the base and a 1/4"-20 screw on top.

I planned to use these two arms in macrophotography but their heaviness made me quite damped. Macro system is heavy as a fact, and one of main goals is to try to reduce the weight of parts. Novoflex flexible arms are not the best choice for it. You may use them maybe with tripod and concrete macro-bracket for static subjects - but I should not advise you to try them for operative macro-hunting. You will become tired shortly after beginning.
