Hoya 52mm Linear Polarizing Glass Filter

You Pay: $24.81

Hoya Linear Polarizer - Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.

NOTE: Linear polarizers are used with most video and manual focus photo cameras. They are not recommended for auto-focus SLR cameras.

This filter eliminates ultraviolet rays to remove haze from outdoor shots as well as polarizing the light to remove reflections, and increase color saturation, without affecting the overall color balance

I bought this filter because of on many places I read its good to have a filter on your lens to keep it protected, and that a polarized filter is great to reduce reflection for landscape photography (which is what I'd like to get into). I really haven't used it enough to recommend it or not but it is definitely dimmer so does affect lens performance if attached, so make sure you know what you're getting before purchasing it.

Only annoying this is that its very hard to rotate the filter to change the polarization while composing a shot if you have a lens hood on, so that is a bit annoying as I do not want to remove my lens hood.

Comments about Hoya 52mm Linear Polarizing Glass Filter:

The Hoya 52mm polarizer is exactly what I wanted at a fair price. Overall build and performance quality is more than acceptable and balanced. I'm rating the product a top-rating primarily because of the great quality:price ratio. Living in Hawaii, near the sea and moisture haze, a good quality polarizer always helps to get the most out of every shot. It's always great to get something that works that doesn't have to break your pocketbook or get overly hyped.

Comments about Hoya 52mm Linear Polarizing Glass Filter:

Got this polarizer to use with my Olympus OM-D and associated lenses. It was inexpensive but seems to be great quality; spent an entire day shooting waterfalls with it and had nothing but success. The polarizing effect is strong and easy to work with and the filter doesn't introduce any stray color casts. I'm happy with it.

Comments about Hoya 52mm Linear Polarizing Glass Filter:

It is what it is, and then some. For a [$] filter, it feels very very solid. The whole thing has a nice and weighty and solid feel to it. The outer frame is metal and has two rings that rotates independently. One to screw on and the other to rotate the filter once it is screwed on. Although I'm not sure what purpose it'll serve for a linear filter...If it was a gradient, it'll make more sense to be able to rotate the filter. But, I'm not complaining, It just gives me a sense that I have the power to rotate it when it is screwed on, even if it doesn't serve any purpose. The glass filter does a good job of filtering out polarized light. I took some pictures in direct sunlight and noticed immediately how vibrant the colors looked. No discernible artifacts. Serves as an excellent filter for a beginning enthusiast like me.

I use this filters as dedicate filters for my lenses. That means, that I do not take them off the lense.

I love it. Helped out a lot on glare and enhanced colors. Gave it a four because I've never owned any other polarizing filter so I cannot compare to others.
