Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun. Filter factor is between 2.3 and 2.8 (approx. +1.3 stops).
Linear polarizers are used with most video and manual focus photo cameras. They are not recommended for auto-focus SLR cameras.
PLEASE NOTE: All auto-focus SLR and certain manual focus SLR cameras require circular polarizers. Consult your instruction manual.

Comments about Hoya 77mm Linear Polarizer Glass Filter:
As other Hoya products, this one doesn't disappoint. Filter and coating quality is excellent.
DSLR users please note that this is a LINEAR polarizer. It won't work well with a standard digital camera! For DSLR you need a circular polarizer. I needed it for a special application.

Comments about Hoya 77mm Linear Polarizer Glass Filter:
I have used the polarizing filter around water and in wide angle landscape shots. This filter definitely cuts out most water reflections and brightens up the sky. I am no professional, but it seems to be of good quality for the price. Only negative thing I can think of is that it can be a little hard to remove because it is designed to rotate even when completely screwed into a lens. I learned quickly though that you should not squeeze the filter very hard when unscrewing it. Squeezing it only compounds the problem. Great filter / Great price!

Comments about Hoya 77mm Linear Polarizer Glass Filter:
This filter offers a nice transition for a polarizer. It is of excellent quality and well made. The action of the rotation is smooth, but not loose.
