The Hoya 52mm Ultraviolet UV(0) Super Multi-Coated (S-HMC) Glass Haze Filter is a wise initial investment. It helps protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs.
Hoya's high transmission Super-Multi-Coating minimizes reflection at the filter surfaces which reduces flare and ghosting.
This outstanding filter offers revolutionary performance in light transmission and color balance. 12 layers of Super Multicoating are applied to the surfaces of the Skylight 1B and UV(0) models, which produces an average transmission of 99.7%.
Coupled with maximum surface precision, this allows increased resistance to flare and stunning images can be recorded at wide apertures without compromising the performance of your lenses.

A 52mm filter is a product that won't be used on many "Pro" lenses, even so, consumer lenses need protection too. I have not done clinical testing but this item does not seem to distort or change color qualities as far as I can see. It helps protect the lens, and I've cleaned fingerprints that would have otherwise been on the front element. The case is plastic and can be used to store the filter in your camera bag.

I purchased the Hoya UV(0) filter for the specific purpose of filtering out UV light while photographing fluorescent mineral specimens. While certainly an improvement over skylight and 1A filters, the filter still allows significant amounts of longwave UV light to pass. My subjective estimate is that the filter passes ~20% of the light output of a 9-watt, 368nm lamp. The filter did block 100% of the shortwave UV output of a 9-watt, 254nm lamp but then so does window glass.
The filter also slightly fluoresces a light green-yellow color under both shortwave and longwave UV light. I did not find that this fluorescence was strong enough to affect image hue under shortwave UV. Under longwave, the white balance was thrown too far out of whack by the passed UV to judge any effect of the filter fluorescence.

Comments about Hoya 52mm Ultraviolet UV(0) Super Multi-Coated (S-HMC) Glass Haze Filter:
I put UV filters on all my lenses to protect them and to cut down on hazy skies. I used to get cheap non-coated ones. But when shooting bright objects (sun, moon, headlights) there would be awful reflections caused by the non-coated filters. This coated filter doesn't cause strong reflections.

Excellent glass, excellent coatings, aluminum rings instead of brass so they'll deform in a crash and save your lens. Been using these for years and they're perfect.

I had to decide between the UV(0) and the UV(C), I'm glad I chose the UV (0), this fit perfectly in my Nikkor 18-55mm. I think I worth the money when we are talking about image quality and even more important, lens protection for your equipment (S-HMC).

Comments about Hoya 52mm Ultraviolet UV(0) Super Multi-Coated (S-HMC) Glass Haze Filter:
Hoya's Super HMC is excellent. It equals B+W's MRC, which I consider the best on the market. I own both and choose whichever is cheapest at the time. For today's digital, UV protection is superfluous as sensors and front elements are already treated. I bought this filter strictly for protective purposes. The glass is superb and the coating is extremely easy to clean. My only knock on this filter is that it's mounting ring isn't brass like B+W's.

I use these s-hmc on all my lenses. I didn't think filters mater too much until I compaired some night shots I took with a lens with a hmc filter and one with s-hmc. The difference was HUGE. S-HMC had almost no ghosting or flare. It is worth the money on go for the better filter.
The only down side is that it is a little hard to clean. No mater what I do there seems to be a greasy film on the filter. That is the nature of the coating they use. As a result I sometimes scratch the filter by polishing it too hard. At least they are affordable.

Comments about Hoya 52mm Ultraviolet UV(0) Super Multi-Coated (S-HMC) Glass Haze Filter:
It should be a 5-star filter, but there is not enough space for the Nikon cap. Could be they want to make it slim for stacking other filters. As such, the cap is leaving marks on the filter coating. I removed the cap and simply use the hood to protect the lens now, including inside the bad. Still work great.

This is a quality multi-coated lens filter. I use it as a protective element on the front of my camera lenses. Keeps the lens clean, protected from rain and helps somewhat with small bumps and bangs. I feel much better cleaning a filter rather than the lens itself.
It works as it is intended so I have no negatives.
