Pelican silica gel will help prevent condensation from forming inside cases. Condensation will form in a case when you take it from a warm to cooler environment.

This is a great product for keeping your camera equipment in your bag from getting affected by humidity. I keep this in my camera bag at all times, especially when I travel to the Caribbean and other warm places, and it should work. I really like that it is infinitely reuseable - if the orange beads in the window turn clear (to show they've absorbed as much moisture as they can) you just put the thing in the oven for a few hours to dry it out and it is good to go again!

I put this in a gun case. When I opened the case several months later, the gel tin had popped open and there were silica balls everywhere. I think I know what happened. I put a ball in water and watched it under a 10x loupe. It appeared to swell up. It's possible that as it absorbs moisture, the silica could swell and can pop open the tin, sending little balls everywhere. Just put on rubber band around the thing and you'll be good. Just make sure you take the band off when you put it in the oven to dry it out.

Great idea. It is a little big, but I like its ability to regenerated and reused.

Comments about Pelican Silica Gel:
I didn't realize until after I had purchased this item that you have to bake it in an oven for a couple of hours (3 hrs)before you can use it and each time thereafter when it has to be reset. This is impractical because I would not turn my oven on for 3 hours just to set this product. Yes, I could put it in the oven when I am baking a food dish however most food items that I bake do not take 3 hours. Needless to say I have never used this product since I purchased it because I can't be bothered to activate it. Also it is a bit bigger than I had anticipated - I was hoping to use it inside of my standard size camera bag and whilst it could probably fit inside of this bag it is a bit long.
Comments about Pelican Silica Gel:
I use these in my firearm safe and TSA Pelican cases for transport. Going from an airline cargo hold at 35,000 feet and -10F to +95F heat upon landing, you can imagine how much condensation can build inside these cases. NEVER a problem!!!

Great to protect your equipment from moisture. I buy from B&H this product because I know I get the original product.

Comments about Pelican Silica Gel:
This is very simple. it keeps your gear dry when working in humid conditions, and prevents buildup of steam on my lenses. If something gets properly wet, I drop it in a sealed back with a couple of these, and leave it alone for a few days, and usually everything is good. I used to snatch all the little silica gel bags from shoe boxes to put in my gear bags, but this is much smoother. I have used it in conditions where temperature has varied a lot (in and out of mountian lodges whilst skiing) in the jungle, and by the ocean. Works for me.

Comments about Pelican Silica Gel:
I use this in my travel case for traveling with computer equipment when I edit video on the road. Humidity will wear gear down faster. The manufacturers boast that the item will last forever. As soon as the color of the beads changes, you can roast it in the oven to leech out the moisture. Very cool! A low cost for extra peace of mind when wanting to take care of gear in varying conditions, especially while traveling or long-term storage. I have yet to decide exactly how to pack it in best with my gear. It is a bit large.

Comments about Pelican Silica Gel:
If you store or travel with your lenses in a pelican case, this is probably a worthwhile investment. One thing I didn't realize when I bought it is that it is reusable - you can 'bake' it if the gel has absorbed moisture.

Comments about Pelican Silica Gel:
I have 3 of these in some pelican cases. I don't see them working but I bought them more for peace of mind and having some sort of "insurance" that my gear is as properly protected as I can make it.
The orange pellets inside are very faint but are orange (which means they're operational) Now, they were this colour right out of the packaging so I don't know if they should be brighter or if that's the colour at 100% functioning.
Pelican should have a chart that explains how orange they should be. Not too many customers want to open new product and bake them straight away.
