I used this tripod for a wedding this past weekend and it worked out great. It is a little on the heavy side, but that is great in my book. It is not so heavy it cannot be carried, but my PD170 is rock solid on top! Head is very smooth and does excellent.

I noticed a lot of reviewers complained about breaking the tighteners for the arms and that the tightener for the pan got in the way. If you will notice, the plastic wing nut will pull away from the nut and allow you to get a small wrench in there to loosen up everything the first time out. Also, if you will pull out the plastic wing nut (you may need to unscrew the end) you can adjust where the plastic wingnut lays so it does not get in the way of your pan, I can go 360° around with mine with no problems. (New Buyers - After you purchase the tripod, you will understand what I am talking about, just remember to refer back to this review if it will not rotate 360°.)

Bottom line... Rock solid performer for the money!

This product was purchased primarily for video work and was everything I had hoped it would be - except for one major flaw that really should be addressed by the manufacturer.

The tripod itself is very sturdy, the fluid head is smooth, the leg locks positive, and the W3-Dolly that came as part of the BH package was a very useful addition. All in all, a great value.

BUT...the tripod uses a plastic molding for the leg guide and to attach the spreader to the legs. The clevis portion of this molding snaps off with very little pressure, leaving spreader unconnected and the tripod useless unless mounted on the dolly to constrain the flopping leg. One of these moldings was broken when we opened the box. I'm sure that BH would have taken care of this with absolutely no problem but the same thing would have happened again, probably at a very inconvienent time.

For most users this would have been a major problem but, as I liked the construction of the rest of the tripod very much, we went into our machine shop and made three new leg guide/clevises out of billet aluminum. End of problem and we now have a great tripod. But not many users will have a full machine shop at their disposal.

This tripod is one of the best tripods I've owned, especially for the price. Pans are very smooth and adjusting it is no hassle. It not only looks and feels like a professional tripod it also produces professional content. Would recommend this to anyone looking for a tripod. Comes with a great bag and extra tripod head.

Comments about Davis & Sanford Provista 7518 Tripod with FM18 Head:

Great for the price, as a professional videographer, I was looking for a well built, durable, tripod, with a fluid video head I can trust with create smooth footage for my footage. I was not let down one bit for the price. Affordable price for what you get, it is durable, a good metal feel, with an adjustable head, accurate leveler built in, double head handles, everything came securely fastened, ready to use. Case is great quality, has pouches inside, and a fastening mechanism that works great to cushion the head of your tripod and keep it secure in the case. Legs extend as high or low as you would need, and fluid head is as smooth as you could ask for, with adjustable sensitivity vertically and horizontally. Even comes with an EXTRA spare quick plate insert, which I LOVED to find one random day. Also has tools for maintenance inside. Might be slightly heavy, but that's because of good quality.

      Solid Tripod for the price

      By Evan

Comments about Davis & Sanford Provista 7518 Tripod with FM18 Head:

This tripod is of great build quality for the price. Feels solid. The carrying case is a nice bonus and has a good shoulder strap. My only complaints are with the locks on the head. The plate lock hits your camera body and while there is a ratcheting feature that allows you to tighten it, it is still not easy to do. That is my biggest complaint with the whole thing. A great tripod for beginners on a budget as I was.

I purchased this tripod to use to mount one of my cameras that would be used as a stationary shot and I am not planning on using it to do a lot of panning or tilting but the fluid head is smooth and will lock down to prevent any movement. What I don't like is that it doesn't allow you to make friction adjustments and the handles are position where out instead of a more downward angle. The other issue is the camera plate. The pin is to small for video cameras and has a tendance to be loose and moves around easy.

Comments about Davis & Sanford Provista 7518 Tripod with FM18 Head:

I come from working at the news where tripods are more durable and have more adjustments.. however with those options they tend to be a lot more expensive.

With this tripod, especially if you're just needing something to get started with, you have a solid base w/ a fluid and and the ability to add a sandbag to it so it's weighed down.

Affordable, smooth, two handles and the quick release on it is great + it supports a steady amount of weight.

I would recommend this product and if you're on the wall about it because you know you'll want a better one.. don't worry. It's great knowing you can have a backup tripod which you WILL end up using :)

Comments about Davis & Sanford Provista 7518 Tripod with FM18 Head:

I've been using this for a couple weeks now, and I have to say the fluid pan and tilt rivals much more expensive heads that I've used. Before purchasing I was wary about the latches that extend the legs, but they are much more sturdy than similar latches I've used, and they click into place nicely for a firm hold. The tripod is weighted nicely; it's not going to fall over in the breeze but it's light enough to carry without killing your back.

The only reasons I give this 4 stars instead of 5 is that the handles on the head are positioned awkwardly close together, and the included carrying bag seems a little flimsy with little padding. Besides these minor issues this is an excellent tripod and definitely one of the best in this price range.

The price is very reasonable thru B&H and the product very satifactory. The panning/tilt is great particularly at this price. While some state "it's heavy", to me I like its weight as it helps keep things steady. My camera setups are around 10 lbs each. If you are someone using small DSL type cameras, maybe you won't like the weight.

And this tripod is very sturdy and could handle much more weight then my camera. The head is fluid motion on both planes up and down side to side with very smooth movement.

I use this tripod for my professional Sony NEX-EA50UK Camcorder. What is great about this tripod is that it is beyond heavy duty. My camcorder is not compact, so it needs a sturdy and flexible tripod. My camcorder easily fits the tripod head and it's like butter pivoting/panning left to right. This is a monster of a tripod, so if you are looking for a compact tripod this is not the one.

                      Excellent product!

I mostly use this one with my camcorder Canon xa10. Literally, it works beyond expectation. The quality build, how smooth the FM18 provides, and how light weight it is. Aditionally, it comes with extra plate and a cover. Operating with 2 handles give me a lot of stability, and if I wanna take my camcorder off, I can do it very quickly thanks to 2 ways slide of the plate. Finally, I'm very happy with my purchase, definetely recommend.

This tripod is to replace my old (47 year old) cheap tripod with wobbly aluminum legs and broken head. I put off a replacement because I didn't want something cheap that could easily break. When B & H put this one on sale, I jumped at the deal. Glad I did.

Just bought this tripod because of the 50% off, I only paid $ . Out of the box it looks great and the tripod head really is smooth. Was planning on buying a more expensive manfrotto but I'm glad I save the money and went with this one plus it comes with an extra plate and a case.

I was looking at this tripod just weeks earlier, as luck would have it, it came up in the deal of the day and I got it. I love it so far, wonderful and sturdy! Worth every penny, oh and did I mention the fluid head? Great!

If your thinking about a tripod feel secure in this one. Great feel, excellent build quality, pro feel and it smells like chocolate! Just kidding about the chocolate part but I really like this tripod. With the sturdy feel and ease of use, now this is now my go-to tripod. I watched a lot of reviews online and I could not find a bad one on this product. I glad I bought this and B&H made buying it so easy. Again, if your thinking of buying just one tripod, get this one.

Has a quality feel to it and as this is my first fluid head it has a unique feel when panning. Only have a few hours with it but so far so good. I would recommend this to any enthusiast shooter with a modest weight system 15-16 lbs. and under. Heavy pro systems may work but I can't comment to that. What I can say is this is a heck of a value for what you get. Love how two QD mounts are provided.
