    Comments about Ikelite Dome Port:

I've had to purchase two of these and they're poorly made. The lens hood has broken off almost immediately on both of them. When I'm on a boat, I don't have a feather pillow to put the camera down on. Usually it gets put on the deck and yes, it may bounce around a _small_ amount. If we're moving quickly it gets put somewhere more secure. A product like this should be built to withstand normal operation in a normal environment. The normal environment for this is the non-plush environs of a dive boat. The dome works ok without the hood, but it also scratches easily. The hood would probably have helped with some of the wear and tear if it had stayed on. When I upgrade the camera I will probably not stick with an Ikelite housing. It does gets an extra star for being cheap. So there is that.

      Problem with Nikon 12-24 lens

        Comments about Ikelite Dome Port:

I've not gotten this underwater yet, but I already have found a strange problem. With the Nikon 12-24mm lens, d80 Ikelite housing, putting on the zoom sleeve involves putting the camera in the housing, mounting the sleeve from the back of the lens (it won't fit over the front) and then putting on the lens and then the port. This works fine. However, getting the lens out is scary -- the lens release button is inaccessible inside the housing. After some frantic fishing with a long, thin screwdriver, I did rescue my camera. Ikelite recommends doing what I did, and then blithely says 'reverse the steps' to get the camera out. I wonder if they ever tried it. Lesson: don't go on a dive trip without a long, thin screwdriver.
