I used FP4+ (120 size) to test my new MF camera. The film comes in a box with very clear instructions and developing time information. I rate the film 125 EI and used in shady and under direct sunlight areas. One roll gave me 15 frames. I developed the film in D76 1:1 for 11 minutes at 20 º C with 500 ml (250 D76+250 distilled water) using the agitation recommendations by Ilford. The results are good however in sunny locations the shadow detail was lost so next time I will rate the film to 64, 80 or 100 EI and decrease the developing times accordingly. The developed film became extremely flat with no curls and now it is very easy to scan or enlarge.

Excellent grain structure, though not a really 'fine grain' film. Not very forgiving in exposure or development. Tends to become very contrasty and difficult to print unless you have extremely tight controls on temperture. If exposed and developed absolutely perfectly then it yields excellent prints. Otherwise highlights are blotched into nothing but white chalk and details in the shadows are lost altogether.

You really need some sor of automated processing if you plan to use this film.

Comments about Ilford FP4 Plus 120 Black & White Print Film (ISO-125):

I use FP4+ in a Hasselblad 500C (with Chrome C lenses). I use my negatives for darkroom printing and also scan them. The tones are wonderful and the film is always consistent with high exposure latitude and good contrast. I expose at ISO 100. I use Ilfotec HC (same as Kodak HC-110) for development. The film is always consistent and the negatives are flat and easy to handle.

Comments about Ilford FP4 Plus 120 Black & White Print Film (ISO-125):

I absolutely love how this film comes out if developed in Rodinal. Striking accutance, and beautiful tones.
Nothing to do with the cloudiness and flatness of HP5.
In 120 and 35, prints very easily with minimal contrast and exposure fiddling.
Relatively forgiving of small deviations from optimal exposure, and keeps good shadow detail.
My favorite uses are portraits, nature and travel. The slower ISO makes it bit problematic for faster-moving subjects as you'll mostly be shooting at 1/60-1/125. if you plan carefully and the weather is nice, it can be used for street as well.

Comments about Ilford FP4 Plus 120 Black & White Print Film (ISO-125):

Ilford is basically the king of monochrome film anyway, and they offer a wide range of options for the b/w film enthusiast, but FP4+ is just something special. If you want a classic b/w film, this is it. FP4+ has a classic fine cubic grain structure with a nice exposure latitude and tonal range (slightly more compressed than Ilford Delta 100), great contrast, and deep blacks. I find it particularly suited to street photography, landscapes, and architecture, but it can be used for virtually anything that doesn't require high speed.

Comments about Ilford FP4 Plus 120 Black & White Print Film (ISO-125):

I use this film in good daylight due to its relatively slow speed in a 120 format. Light or no wind and fairly bright sunshine are best. The tones and low grain are very good. It appears a bit sharper and less grainy than HP5 Plus but one has to make sure that movement and shallow depth of field is not a problem. A tripod or other support is helpful.

Comments about Ilford FP4 Plus 120 Black & White Print Film (ISO-125):

Still my favourite film. Sharp, good contrast & tone plus excellent enlargement capability. I prefer this to faster film. Ilford quality & consistency. Good for portraits, landscapes and general photography where fine grain is important.Responds well to all the developers I've tried.

Comments about Ilford FP4 Plus 120 Black & White Print Film (ISO-125):

Super versatile, fine grain, forgiving, makes great prints. Not quite as contrasty as TriX but instead seems to give a better gradation of tones. Easy to use and process and cheaper than TriX for equal image quality.

I have always been a Plus X fan and still have a supply in the freezer but FP4 is the best available today at that speed. Good contrast, good detail in shadows and highlights.

I have tried a various films produced by Ilford, but keep coming to FP4 as the most proven option. It has great detalisation, less grain, great dynamic diapason. Works great for both amateurs and pros.

Comments about Ilford FP4 Plus 120 Black & White Print Film (ISO-125):

Since Kodak has discontinued Plus-X I have switched to Ilford FP4 and have no complaints. I use it in my Mamiya C220 and respool it for use in old Kodak 620 folder and box cameras. The mamiya is a given for great images but the old Kodaks really shine with this film. Use this film with no worries.

Harsh and very touchy in development

Comments about Ilford FP4 Plus 120 Black & White Print Film (ISO-125):

Excellent grain structure, though not a really 'fine grain' film. Not very forgiving in exposure or development. Tends to become very contrasty and difficult to print unless you have extremely tight controls on temperture. If exposed and developed absolutely perfectly then it yields excellent prints. Otherwise highlights are blotched into nothing but white chalk and details in the shadows are lost altogether.

You really need some sor of automated processing if you plan to use this film.
