I bought these because I wanted closed earphones for monitoring while recording one track at a time at home. I also was hoping to replace a Grado SR60 pair that had developed rattle in one ear that I used for general listening. Based on the good reviews here, I was hopeful.[...]The build seems OK, and they seem reasonably comfortable to me. They came with a 3.5mm to 1/4in adapter. (It's always nice to have another of those.)Upon first listen my immediate impression was that the music was very fatiguing - the mids and highs seemed unclear, Not quite 'music in a can', but it was a bit in that direction. I thought it might be a bad recording, so I swapped in my rattling SR60s. In comparison the music was clear, crisp, and easy to listen (in spite of the rattle). This confirmed that the problem was with the CH700s rather than the recording. I found it so fatiguing that I won't listen through these for more than a few minutes at a time. I won't recommend these for listening to music. I had expected more based on the other reviews. On the other hand, a friend of mine who has some high frequency hearing loss could not tell the difference between these and the SR60s. So if your ears are already fried these might be fine for you.

Use mostly to plug into a Yamaha digital piano to keep things quiet around here. They seem to be built in a quite sturdy fashion; the sound quality is fine for this use; and in fact I prefer them over much more expensive Bose noise-canceling headphones for this purpose, because the Bose's almost pick up too much, must be turned way down, etc.

I was looking for a good pair of headphones with some of the quality of the more expensive ones but without the high price. These headphones sound fairly good and are quite comfortable to wear. I also like to have a true and clear representation of audio that I am listening to. These do a fairly good job without adding extreme bass or coloring the sound. I also like having the one side cord attachment to the headphones making them easier to wear while working.

I haven't tested a lot of headphones in this price range, so they might compare to others. I got these in a kit with a H4n and have used them for a while. They sounded ok until I got a pair of 7506's today. I did a sound comparison and wanted to through the Samson's out the window. The 7506's are probably 10 times better, and well worth the 2x price.

Comments about Samson CH700 - Studio Headphones:

I bought these Samson CH700 studio reference headphones for my home recording projects. These were relatively inexpensive and seemed to fill the basic function I was looking for.

The sound was nothing to write home about. Very flat and "one-dimensional" depth - - - weak response in all audible frequecies and lacked spacial dimension. But the sound quality is still acceptable for what I needed. I have a set of Grado SR225 which I use for projects requiring high definition audio, and when compared side-by-side, the Samson CH700 sounds like a portable AM transistor radio when compared with the SR225. But I understand these are not in the same market so the comparison may not be fair, especially given the price difference between the two. I just wanted to describe the difference in audio depth and clarity that you I can't hear with the Samson CH700.

Sound quality aside, my main complaint is in the durability of the wires connecting the headphone to the seemingly high-quality gold-plated 1/8" plug. The connection isn't tight (or too tight?) after less than one year of infrequent use. I can't find any obvious loose wires. I think there's probably a break in the wires. If I can't find the problem easily, I'll probably toss these and buy something else in the $50(USD) range.

I consider the Samson CH700 to be an inexpensive headphone set for very basic functional duties, and nothing more than that. If you need high fidelity and definition of audio nuances (and have the $$$), I suggest looking at other products.

These headphones are ok... but muffled and flat sounding. They work fine for basic monitoring, but you will not be able to hear every detail of your recording. If you are serious, spring for a better set of headphones.

I've had better head phones but I got these for my traveling and on set monitors. They are priced reasonably and perform well.

Comments about Samson CH700 - Studio Headphones:

First of all, the specifications were wrong. The cable is NOT 3 feet/1 meter long it is actually 9 feet. I guess that is actually a bonus getting more than you paid for. My real complaint is the awful sound they produce. I have a pair of ATH-M30 and ATH-M50. These sound so muffled and just plain bad. You could almost mistake it for mono sound. Also they are very uncomfortable. The bottom of the ear pads seem to lift off your ear. It seems they were designed for a much larger head and since they have little adjustments they don't work for me. For the price range I would recommend highly Audio Technica ATH-M20. However if you are going to buy these B&H had the best price around!

This is a good set of headphones for the money. They are not uncomfortable but not terribly comfortable either. I use these for video editing and they work just fine. My only problem with them is that my head is a little small and they are bigger than I thought they would be. They fit loosely on my head. When I need a new pair of headphones, I probably won't be buying these again because of how big they are.

I use these headphones for recording and casually at home. They are extremely comfortable and the sound is great for the price. One thing that i don't really like is the cord length, which is great for recording and using at home, but horribly annoying if you want to use them when you are on the go with your iPod or something. Overall they are a good buy and I think that they are better than the Sennheiser HD 201 which are about the same price and more well known. I'd say if you are looking for studio headphones in this price range go with these.
