I purchased this lense to go with a canon HV30 camcorder. Using a step-up adapter this wide angle lense screws in quite nicely. I have a XH-A1 lens hood which I have fitted on to protect it. You can put it on this lense without using tape or zipties although they would make it more rugged. This lense provides the wide angle effect I was looking for. The video appears to be wide-angle and more movie like when I look through the viewfinder. There is no optical distortion or color fringing. I have full zoom through with no problems. There is some small dust mote build up over time so also find a high pressure aerosol cleaning device to go with it.There is no distortion in the viewfinder of my camcorder. While there are better wide angle lenses, they cost more. While there are cheaper lenses, they are inferior in quality. This is the entry-level wide angle lense you should look at if you are in the market for one. I suggest this for cameras in the [$] price range for wide angle use.

Very useful when shooting indoors, or where there is not much space. I already had one of these for my Canon HV20, and recently got a second HV20 camera, this is the first accessory I have bought for that camera as the wide angle is so handy on my other camera.

I haven't noticed distortion, although if you zoom in too much with the lens on it goes out of focus, but this defeats the purpose of using a wide angle lens! I don't see it as a problem.

Comments about Raynox DCR-6600Pro, 0.66x, Wide Angle Lens:

I figured I would use the heading I did because when I was deciding what to go with for my HV30, I was a little confused and concerned this would be the right lens for my camera. It is.....Just be sure to get the step up ring. I went with the one B&H gives with the lens. Some have complained it was cheap plastic. But as far as I can tell it's metal and built well.

While I'm not a Pro and use to using expensive high end lenses, I give it five stars because for the money it is a very excellent lens. It does not degrade the image quality with very little if any barrel distortion. It zooms well with just a bit of focus issues at full zoom. I used the "manual focus" function and everything is fine.

So, bottom line it's a must have for the HV30 which suffers from lack of wide angle normally. One other thing, I think I would have been annoyed with the look of the silver Canon lens. The black of the Raynox looks great with the camera and makes it look a bit more substantial. Although I'm a loyal Canon buyer, why it would be so hard to tool up a black version of their lens is hard to understand.

This works well with my hv30. Buy this one because the "HD" version is EXACTLY the same thing but it's marketed towards still cameras. Plus it comes with a free step up bring, the "HD" version didn't.

I bought this for my Canon HV30 camcorder. For shooting indoors, close-ups, with lots of people, this wide-angle lens is very valuable. The image is great even when zoomed; no vignetting, though there might be some distortion at full zoom that is probably only noticeable on close inspection of certain still frames. Came with a case and lens caps which were much appreciated. Bonus: it makes my little camcorder look much cooler.

The increased range is very nice, and with my HV20, I can zoom through it with no vignetting or distortion. You bought the camera...now you might as well plunk don't a little extra change to maximize its functionality! Solid construction...this is not a cheap, useless bauble. You will use it!

This is the exact same lens as the (often out-of-stock) HD6600 from Raynox. I use this lens with my Canon HV30 and couldn't be happier - just pick up a 43mm-52mm step-up ring and you're good to go. The 52mm version of this lens keeps you from having to deal with any vignetting, the glass is very clear and sharp, and the lens's shape and color are a natural fit for the HV30.

I bought this lens for my HV30. It´s really a must for shooting inside.

I have a Canon HV30 and I use this wide angle with it. It's works fine, I don't have any complains accept that it won't allow you to zoom through it the full 10x but I really didn't expect it to because that's not what I'd use a wide angle for anyways... If you zoom to the full 10x, the picture becomes oddly colored. But it's a nice looking style for something different!

The only thing I would reccomend is get a decent step up ring. I had to get mine in two seperate parts and it causes some vignetting when completely zoomed out.

Good lens, but can't add filters

When used on a Powershot S5 IS with a 52mm lensmate adapterit works great, but any filters in between causes vignettingat full wide, zoom in a bit and still have a lot of blurringin the corners.I'm hoping to find a better solution. I really want to useat least one filter and the full wide angle.

Expertise: Above average, but first wide angle lens

Problems Encountered: Can't have any filters in between adapter and lens.
