I use this product as a Hobbyist Photographer. This is NOT a professional quality tripod, but keeping that in mind, this tripod is awesome. It is of a very solid aluminum construction, it folds to a VERY small size for portability and comes with its own travel bag! It is FULLY adjustable to just about any size you could possibly need! While the framework is aluminum, the head is made of plastic, and I can see this wearing out over time, but it functions ADMIRABLY currently, even in weather as low as 18* F! (yes, I know, I have no idea why i was out shooting in that weather either...)This unit has all the features you'd love to have, with very little compromises. Both the head, and the tripod itself have levels on them, to avoid leveling corrections in post-processing. The head features a quick release camera mount for those shoots when you need to move quickly from tripod mounted to hand-held, it has spikes in its feet for great steady outdoor multi-terrain performance, and it is light, portable and easy to use!For under [$], I think you would be hard pressed to find a better tripod. If you're a professional photographer, this tripod isn't for you, but if you have thousands in equipment, why would you only be spending [$] on a tripod anyway? For the hobbyist photographer, this is the tripod to get!

I bought this because I just needed something to hold my Canon 7D still. For that purpose, it works fine.

If you plan on doing ANY video work on this, I'd recommend to buy a better (more expensive) tripod. The pan/tilt is jerky, and clunky. It's the opposite of smooth.

For holding a camera in place, it's fine.

I use this tripod more for audio equipment support and positioning than photos, and it works great for that. It's durable, compact and exactly what I needed. The movement isn't that smooth, but that's not as much of an issue for me.

I use it for my compact lumix camera, it is sturdy and very easy to set up. It comes with two bases for the camera, useful if you've got two cameras. Its very light and smooth to open, close and extend, while everything also locks securely through the turn of a knob.

            Comments about Sunpak 6601UT Tripod:

on the plus side they're compact and light and cheap. on the minus side the components snap if you breath on them too heavy. very low grade, fragile plastic. i bought three for a project. they started breaking on first use. to their credit sunpak replaced. but the replacement snapped almost immediately too. it's problematic when you can't tighten a tripod down so it doesn't move. defeats the purpose.

pretty much useless for anything but the lightest of light duty. and even then, make sure you handle with kid gloves. in fact, save yourself the headache and just avoid it. there are much better options out there.

                Comments about Sunpak 6601UT Tripod:

I bought this tripod strictly for off-camera flash use. It is very lightweight and I would hesitate to use this for a larger DSLR or any DSLR with a large lens. It appears to be well suited for point and shoots and maybe lightweight video cameras. I knew this was a lightweight tripod so I am not disappointed - but be sure this tripod is appropriate for your planned usage. It is lightweight and functions well. It has a good maximum height and the center column is geared and has a lock. Panhead works smoothly.

This is a great tripod for lightweight to medium sized cameras. Easy to use and very affordable. Glad I chose this one! Now for under $, you shouldn't be too rough with it. In order for it to be so light, the materials used are not to be banged around, but I have not had any issues with it o far!

This is a solid tripod for not a lot of money. All the adjusting parts work smoothly and it is light weight and easy to transport. I made a portable watercolor easel by attaching the extra mounting shoe to the bottom of a piece of plywood with a T-nut. Attached to the tripod, the easel surface works great for painting outdoors.

A definite upgrade from what I had before! Smooth and quick to operate, stable and some nice features, like a bubble level and an extra mounting shoe. My Nikon DSLR is near the maximum weight I would use with this, but it is great for my studio use. I only wish it were a couple inches taller, but for 99% of the time, it is perfect.

This unit is a bad implementation of a good idea. The center post will actually flex when fully extended. The legs are wobbly when fully extended. The bubble level is barely visible when SLR attached - almost useless. If it wasn't for the low price I got it at I would have returned. This will be my car trunk tripod - there for when I forget to bring along a good one. This tripod is a good example of building a product in the cheapest possible way. If the manufacturer had just ribbed the leg sections it would have been much more stable. Legs and center post mode a material that is too thin. I have used this and find it best to keep the lower leg sections closed, and the center column only extended to half length.

I don't see how you could beat this tripod for lightweight cameras, at this price. I like the height adjusability, the levels and other adjustments. I may pick up a couple more as needed. Thanks for the speedy B&H shipping too!

This product is an excellent price for what you get. It feels like it has a solid foundation. Its compact, easily adjusts to the hights i need it at, and the most important thing for me, is light weight.

I use this tripod to take photos of makeup for my website. I don't find that it's flimsy whatsoever though I have only used it on its shortest setting and it works perfect for what I need it for.
It is a bit taller than I expected but I didn't measure anything out to check before buying, so that's on me. All in all, I love it!

Bought this tripod for use on my Canon Vixia HF R42 camcorder. This tripod has several features that I did not expect for the price such as the level indicators or I guess you could say balance indicators and the different knobs for adjusting the position of your camera. There is also a knob that tightens up to keep your camera in whatever position you put it on. Overall, great tripod.

                              Comments about Sunpak 6601UT Tripod:

Cants say much more than its a tripod and it works as intended. Sony NEX6 pops right up on it just fine.

My only complaint is that the main shaft, that when you turn the handle to move it up/down is incredibly wobbly and takes a lot of pressure to wind it. It may be just my particular unit, but I used it sparingly, so it's not an issue.

If you use tripods regularly, please look at a better quality step up. It will be a good decision long term.

I bought the Sunpak 6601UT for a plein air painting workshop. I used it at the pastel workshop for 3 days. I am extremely satisfied with my purchase. This tripod is being sold elsewhere as part of a total plein air package for much more.

It is a very sturdy tripod that folds down to a convenient size. I can fit it into my art backpack and carry all my gear without hurting myself like I would with a traditional "dead trees" easel.

I also used it during my Open Studios event and it looks very professional in my home.
