I use this product as a Hobbyist Photographer. This is NOT a professional quality tripod, but keeping that in mind, this tripod is awesome. It is of a very solid aluminum construction, it folds to a VERY small size for portability and comes with its own travel bag! It is FULLY adjustable to just about any size you could possibly need! While the framework is aluminum, the head is made of plastic, and I can see this wearing out over time, but it functions ADMIRABLY currently, even in weather as low as 18* F! (yes, I know, I have no idea why i was out shooting in that weather either...)This unit has all the features you'd love to have, with very little compromises. Both the head, and the tripod itself have levels on them, to avoid leveling corrections in post-processing. The head features a quick release camera mount for those shoots when you need to move quickly from tripod mounted to hand-held, it has spikes in its feet for great steady outdoor multi-terrain performance, and it is light, portable and easy to use!For under [$], I think you would be hard pressed to find a better tripod. If you're a professional photographer, this tripod isn't for you, but if you have thousands in equipment, why would you only be spending [$] on a tripod anyway? For the hobbyist photographer, this is the tripod to get!

I bought this because I just needed something to hold my Canon 7D still. For that purpose, it works fine.

If you plan on doing ANY video work on this, I'd recommend to buy a better (more expensive) tripod. The pan/tilt is jerky, and clunky. It's the opposite of smooth.

For holding a camera in place, it's fine.

    Comments about Sunpak 6601UT Tripod:

I use this tripod to take photos of makeup for my website. I don't find that it's flimsy whatsoever though I have only used it on its shortest setting and it works perfect for what I need it for.
It is a bit taller than I expected but I didn't measure anything out to check before buying, so that's on me. All in all, I love it!

      Comments about Sunpak 6601UT Tripod:

Bought this tripod for use on my Canon Vixia HF R42 camcorder. This tripod has several features that I did not expect for the price such as the level indicators or I guess you could say balance indicators and the different knobs for adjusting the position of your camera. There is also a knob that tightens up to keep your camera in whatever position you put it on. Overall, great tripod.

It's a tripod, a stiff one at that

      By Matt

      from Indiana

      Comments about Sunpak 6601UT Tripod:

Cants say much more than its a tripod and it works as intended. Sony NEX6 pops right up on it just fine.

My only complaint is that the main shaft, that when you turn the handle to move it up/down is incredibly wobbly and takes a lot of pressure to wind it. It may be just my particular unit, but I used it sparingly, so it's not an issue.

If you use tripods regularly, please look at a better quality step up. It will be a good decision long term.

        Comments about Sunpak 6601UT Tripod:

I bought the Sunpak 6601UT for a plein air painting workshop. I used it at the pastel workshop for 3 days. I am extremely satisfied with my purchase. This tripod is being sold elsewhere as part of a total plein air package for much more.

It is a very sturdy tripod that folds down to a convenient size. I can fit it into my art backpack and carry all my gear without hurting myself like I would with a traditional "dead trees" easel.

I also used it during my Open Studios event and it looks very professional in my home.

I use the product for real estate photography. It has a low profile when not extended that allows me to place off-camera flash behind furniture and tight corners, and extends high enough to bounce light off of celings when necessary. Its lightweight and easy to use. Works as advertised. Solid inexpensive workhorse for working photographers.

For basic tripod photography, this is a nice, lightweight, inexpensive tripod. Don't expect much on pan and tilt even for a consumer camcorder, but if you don't need to move much it's fine. For the price, for a 2nd tripod, it was hard to beat.

                                Comments about Sunpak 6601UT Tripod:

A very lightweight tripod that's not suitable for many DSLR's, but I didn't buy it for its traditional use. I bought it to retrofit into an umbrella stand for my Westcott 43" bounce umbrella. By drilling two holes in two different places and attaching eyebolts, I was able to slide my bounce umbrella through the eyebolts.I used the quick release plate to attach my flash foot to. The retrofitted tripod can be placed in small spaces where a conventional light stand would be noticeable. I hope that explains well how I've used this tripod.

This tripod does exactly what it should. Holds a DSLR camera or camcorder perfectly. Levels flat well. Very adjustable. Will buy more of exact same product soon. Also light weight enough to allow me to bring a "B" cam on shoots.

                                      Comments about Sunpak 6601UT Tripod:

I use this tripod to attach my plein air painting easel and palette to. It stays steady while I paint and I can adjust it for watercolor or oil. I can also adjust the height of it for whether I wish to stand or sit. I like the quick release that will attach to the back of the easel. The legs are strong enough to support the palette. It is quick to set up and I can start painting right away. Works great for me.
