Kodak D-76 Developer is a classic multi-use black & white film developer. D-76 provides full emulsion speed and excellent shadow detail with normal contrast, and produces fine grain with a variety of continuous-tone black-and-white films. For greater sharpness, but with a slight increase in graininess, you can use a 1:1 dilution of this developer.

It yields a long density range, and its development latitude allows push processing with relatively low fog.

Yields full emulsion speed and good shadow detail with normal contrast.

Comments about Kodak D-76 Developer (Powder) for Black and White Film:

This is my goto Chemistry for black and white development when I am doing batches or work I know I want a general uniformity of contrast and range. I develop with multiple different chemistries and find it useful to buy the Litre powder package as D76 doesn't have the greatest shelf life when mixed. Best used for learning Darkroom processes.

Comments about Kodak D-76 Developer (Powder) for Black and White Film:

I found a few old rolls of B/W film from almost 10 years ago - I ordered this D-76 developer half heartedly because I really wanted to see what was on the film but didn't expect much to show up as the film was pretty old. Needless to say, my film came out PERFECTLY!!! I was overjoyed and would highly recommend this film developer. I also loved the inexpensive price!

I use D-76 "straight", without further dilution after mixing the stock. It works well with FP4+ and Delta 400 as well as Kodak Plus-X and other BW films.

Comments about Kodak D-76 Developer (Powder) for Black and White Film:

my favorite film developer. Absolutely consistent. I dilute at 1:1 for delta 100, tri-x, etc.

The one liter size is hugely convenient; and helps to prevent spoilage.

I am concerned about Kodak's future commitment , especially to the one liter size.

I had been using the packets of D-76 that make a gallon. I only occasionally shoot film, so frequently dump what has aged for more than six months. This smaller batch will be better for me to keep from wasting chemicals. Thanks, B&H and long live Kodak!

This is the only developer I will ever need to buy. It always gives me the same results. I enjoy working with it on all of my projects.

Comments about Kodak D-76 Developer (Powder) for Black and White Film:

Just started developing my on Film, so I went cheap with my chemicals for development. Very surprised on how well the negitives turned out. better than any thing I ever got from a photo lab. Don't see the need to go with a more exspensive brand. Also good for beginners because the developing time is on the package for all types of Kodak BW film. Doesn't develop c41 type film, so consider that when purchasing your film.
