Comments about Rode NT4 - Cardioid Studio Condenser X/Y Stereo Microphone:

I used two of these mics for a concert. I set one high above the choir and another one high in the back of the room, for ambient audio. I used them with a Zoom H6 and they worked great. I felt it captured a pretty full sound, though my clients asked for a bit more low end in editing. Your mileage may vary depending on client demands. I really like that they comes with cases. It's great to not have to buy another item just to protect the mics. They're heavy mics, so I wouldn't recommend using them on a camera. I put mine on lighting stands (I didn't like the tall mic stands for sale). It's pretty neat that it can be used with a 9V battery. Don't forget to turn them on first though! I hadn't really used mics with on-off switches before, so I'll need to get in the habit. Otherwise, I'm looking forward to using these for years to come.

Comments about Rode NT4 - Cardioid Studio Condenser X/Y Stereo Microphone:

This has to be one of the better mics I've come across at the mid price point that gets you professional results in the field. This mic is fantastic at recording true stereo (Left right and you also hear what's going through from one to the other, through the centre field too!) and the noise floor is not noticeable in most atmosphere field recordings I've done to date. I've used this mic on professional film shoots for television and film and it works wonderfully. Every custom field fx recordist should have one in their sound bag. Some of the high end mics (DPA 4011A matched stereo pairs or the Neuaman stereo mics) would top this mic but those are thousands of dollars more. This mic, does the job just fine.

Love this microphone with my acoustic guitar. It sounds wonderful. It's a hearty microphone, a bit bigger than I imagined. I bought the optional fuzzy windscreen too. It takes a 9 volt battery or you can use phantom power from your board or recording device.

Comments about Rode NT4 - Cardioid Studio Condenser X/Y Stereo Microphone:

I got the NT4 to use in conjunction with my Sony Z7U. I've been recording live bands for the past 3 years and my current setup is the Sony, Nikon D7000, and a Zoom H4N. I wasn't getting great sound with the shotgun mic on the Sony because its a directional mic and it's better for voice only. I was relying on my H4n for all the live audio which sounds great but I needed another mic as a backup. Instead of purchasing another H4N I decided for look into better XLR mics for my Sony and came across the NT4. I'll probably be using the NT4 and my primary audio source over the H4N mainly because of how clear and precise the audio sounds! Amazing audio quality and i'm totally happy with my purchase. Plus it comes with a hard-case so I don't have to worry about it getting tossed around in my camera bag.

I use my NT4 for nature recordings. The NT4 works well in the field and when combined with the "blimp" system; a hard to beat combo. Does an excellent job of picking up distant birds and wildlife, with an amazing job when the birds are closer in.

          - Be warned, it is heavy; read the specs.

Naturally if a person is going to review a microphone the most helpful thing would be for people to hear it. Unfortunately after posting a number of reviews, I found out that they were all rejected because I put a link in to you tube. We used it to record a blue grass band named kevin pace and the early edition.(kpearlyedition). I record them to put on you tube. I thought the mic gave us great sound. I suppose if you went to you tube you could hear this mic.

Comments about Rode NT4 - Cardioid Studio Condenser X/Y Stereo Microphone:

I don't have the money to buy a Scheop's or a Sanken. This mic is a reasonable alternative and seems fairly widely used for field recordings for SFX work. It is less of a problem to set up and move around because the XY micing is one unit, as opposed to two separate mics

While not "perfect," it is perfect for my budget and uses.

Fits inside the modestly priced Rode Blimp, too, for outdoor use.

Comments about Rode NT4 - Cardioid Studio Condenser X/Y Stereo Microphone:

Ok first of I don't write many reviews. So me saying something about this mic means something to me. I was trying to find a great mic to use with my sound devices 702, to record live acoustic guitar/piano w/ vocals. I got a AT4040 originally. That was a decent mic, but REALLY gave me a "hollow" sound. Lots of background noise, and was not an x/y stereo sound like I wanted. If something fell downstairs or anywhere within 100 ft from me, you could hear it in my recording. So I did some research and found amazing reviews about this mic. So I figured I would order it, and if I didn't like it I would return it. First off when I got this mic, the overall feel of it was amazing! VERY buff and durable, you can easily tell just by the work put into it, the weight, and the care of making of it, that a lot of thought was put into the mic. I hooked it up immediately after I got it from fed ex, and I was blown away. Sure, I listened to many demos on youtube etc etc. But nothing compared to what I was hearing coming out of this mic. Pure brilliance. The acoustics are amazingly pure, along with my vocals surprisingly enough! Also on top of that, comes with a great case, the cables that you really need, 10yr warranty from RODE. If you want a good priced x/y mic, this is it hands down. I was looking at some schoeps mics but didn't want to throw down several thousands..... I couldn't be more happy with this mic. Very excited about my upcoming projects.

Having a matched set of high quality stereo microphones on one unit is great.

This is a seriously heavy piece of equipment, almost prohibitively heavy when placed on top of a medium sized video camera (like a panasonic hpx-170)

                    Great audio, nice carying case.

Comments about Rode NT4 - Cardioid Studio Condenser X/Y Stereo Microphone:

This is a beautiful-sounding microphone, and it's provided fabulous results even when using it for ADR and VO on-the-fly. It has a very low noisefloor and captures well-articulated sound. The real bonus is the ability to use a 9V for phantom instead of P48 - works great when using with mobile recorders that don't have enough juice for long-duration and reliable P48. In Dead air roomtone tests, differences between internal 9V versus P48 were quite negligible except for some slightly better articulation of sub 100Hz frequencies.

The real plus to this microphone is that although it has a wide cardiod pattern because of the twin capsules, its perceived polar pattern and off-axis rejection are very tight with a long throw, nearly matched to that of a hypercardiod shotgun mic. One can really drill down on what they want to record with this and not pick up excess ambient noise. A fantastic mic for sound effects and recording, and even intimate foley recording in close proximity.

It would be great if it had an 80Hz High Pass and 10dB Pad switch, but that's only a minor letdown amidst the fantastic microphone that it is.

The 10 Year Warranty is fantastic, a great piece of mind to have.

Comments about Rode NT4 - Cardioid Studio Condenser X/Y Stereo Microphone:

I current own a total of seven other microphones, which ranged in price from about $100 to $400.00. They include the Rode NT3, Sennheiser MKE with Cardioid and Omni capsules, Rode Stereo Video Mic, Shure SM57 & 58, Audio Technica 822, ect. The Rode NT4 is a dramatically better sounding mic than all of then in comparable situations. The quality of my live environment recordings has greatly improved since I started using this mic. From loud rock bands to mellow string quartets, this mic excels. Spend a little more, get a lot more. The Rode NT4 is a great mic, perhaps even a steal at the current price. Buy it now!

I was looking at the NT4 and the AT825. I wanted a mic thatcould record ambient environments well, as well as pin pointdetails for foley recording. This mic blew away myexpectations. For the price the sound is amazing. The stereoimage is fantastic and it's very accurate. Yes, the stylingis funky compared to the AT825, but it's an amazing micotherwise, and it's expandable. Do yourself a favor and getthis if you are on a budget of $500. It already comes withnecessary accessories, so it's a no brainer.Awesome Mic.
