The Tram TR50 is a professional omnidirectional electret condenser lavalier microphone with a low-profile design resulting in low visibility. The TR50 features an integrated power supply and has a frequency response that enhances the character and frequencies associated with speech. It can be powered by the included 357 battery or with phantom power.

The polar pattern provides a generous pick up response at the direct and off-axis sections of the microphone capsule. This enhances sensitivity and minimizes noise associated with movement, wind and clothing contact. The TR50 features minimum sound coloration and is available in a variety of connectors, this version features a standard 3-pin XLR connection for standard operation with any mic-pre.

I've only used Sony and Sennheisers before and this is great. Neat small and rugged carry case for the lav and all accessories. Run on small calculator type batteries if no Phantom power is available. Great sound.
Shot on a building where there was cell phone equipment and the camera front rifle mic was buzzing furiously (From a Sony dsr-450). The Tram had no problem at all and there was no interference at all. Practice with yourself using the vampire clips before puncturing your interviewees. They are good but its easy to stab ones self or wreck clothes.

TR50s have a great and well deserved reputation. I have a few that always performed really well. Unfortunately the last one I bought had a defective battery that 'exploded' overnight and damaged its casing. I don't know if Tram now makes those casing less sturdy then in the past, but now when I'll buy another one (and I will) I'll make sure to have a spare mic just in case. Anyway, thanks to the fantastic B&H return policy and employees, I had no trouble whatsoever to return the damaged mic.

Comments about Tram TR50 - Omnidirectional Lavalier Condenser Microphone with XLR Connector (Black):

Let me first off just say that I am NOT an audio expert, but I do have a sense for sound and I have been very interested in being able to produce high quality video productions with high quality sound.I first tried a cheaper lav for just $ and as you would expect, its sound was sooo bad. It was low quality, noisy, and just sounded as if you were inside a box or something. After watching a couple of online courses on audio for video production, I soon realized that I need high quality gear if I want to be taken seriously. As I learned, "No one cares when the sound is good, but everyone has a problem with bad sound".I researched intensivly on great lavalier microhpones because I really wanted something that is used in Television and that is robust and powerful.I soon learned that one lavalier microphone used in the online courses I had watched, was Tram TR50 (this one I purchased) and I quickly bought this one.I bought from B&H because they were the only one who seemed trustworthy in my eyes, and who had this TR50 in XLR hardwired. At first I had some internal noise problem and I thought I had gotten a bad one(I used it with Zoom H4n recorder which I hihgly recommend due to its awesome phantom power, better than its predecessors) but I quickly got this handled by using the Zoom H4n with batteries instead of cable. The sound this little fella produces is amazing. It is sooo tiny in size, smaller than one inch in size, and still, it produces ten times better sound than a huge and cheap lav does.It comes with great cable management so you won't have to conk so much which is great for newbies like myself. I record with 60-70 in recording level and the sound is awesome and it really has that "dialogue"-sound to it that I have been wanting for so long.Once you go Pro Lav you can't (and will never want to) go back to on-video mics or cheap lavs. I highly recommend this for anyone who want professional audio; and remember- your audience won't notice when you have excellent audio but they will always notice and get annoyed by your bad audio. If you want to be taken seriously on camera, this is one of the best lavs to get for its great price. I recommend it to anyone who, just like me, want to be able to get professional audio on a small budget. Thanks once again B&H for your awesome customer service, fast delivery and awesome collection of products.Best regards,MaxTheMarketer from Sundsvall in Sweden.

Comments about Tram TR50 - Omnidirectional Lavalier Condenser Microphone with XLR Connector (Black):

I've worked around these units for years and they make for good sound. It's amazing how resistant to clothing rustle and other anomalies they are. I've used cheaper wired lavs and if they are not positioned just so, they can drive you insane trying to get clean audio.

However, as bullet-proof as these units appear, the first one B & H shipped me was a dud. It seemed to only work when it felt like it. But I requested a replacement and, of course, B & H responded with their usual fantastic customer service.

The second unit worked like it should (or at least it has so far). I'm sure it will be fine.

As an aside, I do like the newer style phantom capsule. On the older versions, you could insert the 357 (LR44) battery the wrong direction. It appears they've keyed the opening so that can't happen anymore. You still need a T-pin to remove it, but that part is almost romantically a Tram "feature".

I'm using this microphone for filming and videoing one-on-one interviews, and I've been very happy so far with the TR50. It sits very well against clothing (I use the clip-on piece). The sound is very clear, crisp and clean, there is very little clothe sound interference, and doesn't seem to pick up small cable movements. It does pick up ambient noise, so try to minimize those. The microphone is surprisingly light, so doesn't drag down light fabric clothing. The carrying case is very compact and lightweight. Yup, so far, it's great.

I use this for sit-down interviews and it works great. It sounds fantastic, comes in a handy little box with all sorts of accessories and it seems pretty durable. You need phantom power, and you'll probably need a longer XLR for most setups. I wish the cable were about three feet longer, otherwise I'm at a loss for any complaints.

I picked up a second TR-50 to use as backup to my trusty 20 year old original. Perfect match, all the same accessories. 4 stars only because of the low-ish output level.

I use these TR50 microphones with a Zoom H4N recorder to create an independent sound track for video/DVD production and I find they work very well indeed.

Small negative point is that the microphone XLR connector is quite large/bulky and when the mic(s) are connected to the H4N recorder, the connector(s) hinders concealment of this portable recording unit when it is strapped/attached to your body.

they turned out to be so popular with my crews, that the german mics's spend most of the time at the office.
                        good buy.

We use a pair of these for capturing dialog for educational video. The output is fairly low, so the camera and mixer self-noise become more of an issue.
I have used these for voice-over work as well. Will work in a pinch, mounted on a small foam block using the vampire clips. Stuffed the other end of the block in between the knobs of my small-format mixer and let the talent do his thing. The sound came out clear and intelligible, but with nowhere near the punch and authority of a large diaphragm condenser. No problem, it was not designed to produce that sound, and did quite well regardles.

This product has already served my company and myself very well. After lots of hunting the price was the best I found and the quality of sound after recording is above par even without a mixer. For a wired lav mic I could not ask for a better product. Also, the case provided helps me to keep everything well organized and protected.

Comments about Tram TR50 - Omnidirectional Lavalier Condenser Microphone with XLR Connector (Black):

This microphone delivers INCREDIBLE sound quality. The accessories that come with it enable it to be used for a variety of positions. It's hard to see it with a clip, which is fantastic.

What beats all however is the sound quality. VERY crisp and clear, as if the person was right in front of you.

It's not the cheapest, but definitely worth every penny if you want EXCEPTIONAL audio quality.
