This equipment, plus fluorescent lamps (sold separately) will get you started with a very efficient and versatile lighting setup great for on-location shooting and quick setup.

The Kino Flo Diva-Lite 401 is especially designed to provide broad, smooth lighting with a built-in dimming ballast, barndoors and Center Mount. Remote dimming is also an option with the DIM-5 Remote Dimmer (sold separately), and either method can dim the lights from 100% output down to 5.0%.

For more light control options, the included Flozier allows you to soften or spread the light out in various ways. It slips over the front of the fixture, providing a large area of white diffusion. To pack everything back up and store it, the Clamshell Travel & Lamp Cases are included, and will store your fixture, lamps and a lightweight stand (lamps and stand not included).

Even in the hands of an inexperienced lighting professional, the subject will likely end up very well-lit with the Diva-Lite 401's board, soft lighting. When combined with all of the other accessories and equipment in this kit you'll have everything you need to set up quick and efficient on-location lighting whether at home or abroad.

Includes Diva-Lite 401 Fixture
The Diva-Lite 401 light fixture provides a broad, soft and diffuse light source great for photo or video work. Their compact size and rugged build make them well suited for travel, especially when paired with this kit's Travel Case.
Kit Supports 4x 21" 55W CFL Lamps
With the included Diva-Lite 401 fixture, supporting four 21" Kino Flo True Match 55W compact fluorescent lamps, which can optionally be swapped out with daylight or tungsten balanced lamps (sold separately).
Built-In & Remote Dimming: 100-5.0%
The Diva-Lite 401 features a built-in ballast and dimmer control that can decrease the amount of light from 100% down to 5.0%. It is not recommended that the dimmer be used to adjust exposure levels, however, because as the lamp cools the color may drift into the magenta spectrum. The optional Remote Dimmer DIM-5 (sold separately) provides tethered access to the light's output when you can't reach the onboard dimmer knob.
Energy Efficient, Long Lamp Life
The Diva-Lite is an efficient soft light, which is especially important when shooting on-location and power availability is an issue. All fluorescent lamps require some "burn in" time before they operate at their rated Kelvin temperature and brightness. For dimming products, the lamps perform best after 100 hours of operation. Due to portable nature of the Diva-Lites, the lamps can be damaged from handling and transport before "burning-out" so the included Lamp Case included in this kit will help them last.
For Broad & Soft Fluorescent Lighting
With its proprietary chemistry, the True Match lamps in a Kino Flo fixture display a unique quality of soft light. The smooth beam gradient responds especially well to the new generation of HD cameras on the set and works side by side with traditional tungsten sources without corrective filtration.
Built-In Barndoors & Center Mount
The Diva-Lite is most effective in close proximity to the subject because it puts out a broad soft wash of light, like the light off of a bounce card. By being close, the light is easier to control with the built-in barndoors and detachable honeycomb louvers. The built-in Center Mount has a ball and socket design with a lock down handle that, when released allows you to reposition the fixture and lock it back down in place. At the other end of the Center Mount is a Baby Receiver (16mm) that can go directly onto a light stand, adding versatility to the way you mount your lights.
Lamps At Full Color Temperature in 3 Minutes
These lamps get to full color temperature in just three minutes. When you're finished with them simply turn off power with no need for a cool down period, so you can pack up and move out faster, and work more efficiently.
Maximizes Light & Minimizes Heat
Heat management is an important design element of the design of these fixtures. The physical heat of the lamp directly influences color temperature, light output and lamp life. The lamps within these fixtures are correctly spaced to maximize light output and minimize heat. The reflector is vented in the back to increase airflow, while the ends are open to minimize heat build-up. And the power cord is oriented in such a way that the lamp tips will naturally be in a downward position when the fixture is operated vertically.
Included Clamshell Travel & Lamp Cases
The Clamshell Travel Case is well suited for transport by small vehicles or local production trucks, with space for the fixture, lamps and a lightweight stand. While pacing your gear, keep your more fragile lamps protected with their very own Lamp Case specially designed to store and protect them from damage in transit.

Comments about Kino Flo Diva-Lite 401 with Travel & Lamp Cases Kit (120VAC):

Kino flo has a great product with the Diva series. Used in the hard travel cases these lights make excellent versatile lighting fixtures for a multitude of scenarios. Not as light weight as a "fat boy" 2' 4 bank but from a gaffer's perspective there are some really nice features built into the ballasts that separate the Diva series lights from the "Select" T12 style systems. Diva ballasts are built into the fixture which is super handy for the vast majority of lighting set ups. No feeder cables, no ballasts getting kicked around on the floor, just less stuff to keep track of. Pull them out of the case, stick them on a baby stand with a sand bag and you're golden. Now this part is cool, these ballasts are Power Factor Corrected which is awesome. I'll sum up PFC. The benefit of PFC equipment means almost all the energy consumed by the ballast, whether originating from a genny or the power grid is transferred into photonic energy. There isn't a waste of amperes feeding the ballast that isn't in return exciting the lamps for illumination. This allows the lighting crew to achieve more overall lumens per amp drawn than an equivalent T12 bulb on a Kino "Select" ballast. Not to mention the ballasts auto sense voltage deviation plus or minus a fair amount allowing over or under voltages to power the fixture. Line loss, your still covered. Color quality. Daylight K5600 awesome! Tungsten K3200 mediocre. Not as true as the T12 bulbs in the warmer spectrum. Especially when dimmed. There is definitely a magenta color shift below 50% power. Is it still usable in "most" situations? Yes. I'll take that over an 80-85 CRI LED any day of the week. Add some plus green and your covered if you think it's too intense. With a cheap LED you can't add cold wavelengths that just don't exist. You just lack cold depth and accuracy. With the Diva tubes, they have a good cold spectrum. The cold shift again can be corrected with gels, but a poor CRI there is no saving as in many LED's.Dimmer. Great for Daylight, ok for tungsten tubes. lamping down is always useful. I find that I utilize the flozier continuously. Softens the light intensity and spread. great for window side key to boost the window spill effect. Boom the fixture over head on a mini or junior boom and the diva is a great hair back light, rim or kicker. Cost. These are expensive yes. If you're a film maker who earns a living doing film/video then spend the money. If you're a hobbyist or weekend warrior, the "Flo lights" are less than half the cost will serve you beautifully. Reliability: Excellent. Never worry about the lights not functioning. Tube life lasts hundreds of hours and the ballasts quietly march on. Much less stressful than a group of temperamental HMI's. (Although I still use HMI's in junction with these Diva's all the time, I appreciate the reliability of Fluorescents.)Overall Impression: Excellent versatility. Great output per amps drawn. Good daylight color rendering and dimmer capabilities. Compact and functional travel case and tube/globe case for spare or opposite color temp tubes. locking lollipop style stand mount is very functional and locks tight with a spring ratchet. I would highly recommend these fixtures. They will end up costing closer to $[*] when all is said and done. Worth the bucks if you have them to spare.

Comments about Kino Flo Diva-Lite 401 with Travel & Lamp Cases Kit (120VAC):

I expedited shipping for this kit and received it on time in time for my upcoming production. Out of the box, this kit is lightweight and produces great light for keying and filling in your subject. I really like the portability of this kit. The set up, installing the bulbs is very easy, and easy to replace filaments if you have to change them on the fly during a production from tungsten to daylight. I burned the bulbs in for a whole day or so as recommended in the manual as the dimmer can adjust color temperature to a certain degree until they've burned for awhile. On set, the power consumption is quite low so I don't have to worry as much about sharing circuits in smaller rooms with limited power. I found the diffusion does help to focus and soften the light on to my subject. In terms of final product, looking at my footage in post, I am very happy with the quality of this florescent.

Set up time on set is a breeze and way more convenient than a softbox, more compact and packs up very quickly when striking. So far, in my book, using the Kino Diva Lite 401 for a DSL production, for the cost affordability of this kit, it ranks up there as pro grade lighting gear and travels well alongside the rest of my gear.

The Cons: The light output is not as high as an Arri per se, if one is competing with natural daylight coming from windows. We had to set up an Arri with gels on one set that had natural light spilling through windows to compensate. The really only main con is that I did not purchase the two light kit!

Comments about Kino Flo Diva-Lite 401 with Travel & Lamp Cases Kit (120VAC):

By far the best, most flexible key lighting system I have ever used. In fact, I bought two! This kit features soft diffuse light that wraps around your subject. Lamps are easy to change, and the kit holds extra lamps, Flozier, egg crate and gel frame in a neat portable location package.

The only thing you need to be careful about is the fragility of handling/transporting the lamps.

You can't go wrong with this kit!

We record video interviews and many of the interviews are recorded in different locations, so portability is really important to us. Having a convenient travel case which seems very sturdy is terrific. We purchased this unit after trying to work with Lowells which were great but much more difficult to set up and much more fragile. I just shipped the unit back from CA to NY, so I'll see how well the travel case protects.

I use this light on most of my shoots as a keylight for interviews and product shots, it's incredibly bright for it's power consumption and easily managed by either switching to 2-bulbs or using the dimmer built-in to the ballast, the included Louvre also drops exposure by about a half a stop to a stop. The flozier included turns it into a fantastic soft-box, I could go on an on.Only con so far is that it tends to shift towards magenta, which looks great on skin tones but for mixing with other light sources can be easily fixed with a cheap 1/8 to 1/4 Plus Green filter on the included Gel Frame.

Used the kino diva for years, and finally purchased two after a failed attempt to do it cheaper. I tried to get the same bulbs in a cheaper fixture. So I cheeped out and bought Flo Light, Kino like knock off fixtures. They were a major disappointment. Cheap Chinese junk, that worked... but with light flicker, random buzzing noise, bad and cheap remote design, and because of the poor build and materials, the barn doors did not even stay open. So for me not usable. Kino's are more expensive, but well worth it. Well worth it. Awesome solid professional excellence. Thats kino. They are a little heavy. But If you buy them with the offset arm, they can be mounted on small lightweight light stands no problem. Head swivels in any direction. Louvre to control light. Daylight and Tungsten bulbs. Hi CRI. Light quality awesome.

This is the 4th Diva 401 I have purchased from B&H. More of my clients request this light than any other. It is an excellent cool (no heat) soft source, fill or back light that is easily controllable with the built in dimmer.

We shoot both commercial and corporate television and the Kino Diva (both 201 and 401) are essential tools for interviews, product shots and people emotions. Light weight and easy to maneuver in small spaces. Excellent light source daylight or tungsten.

We use the single source 401 for a lot of medical shoots where you are in small space like an operating theater.

Comments about Kino Flo Diva-Lite 401 with Travel & Lamp Cases Kit (120VAC):

This is a great light. It's easy to set up and using the diffuser makes for a nice soft light source. The ability to switch from tungsten to daylight is the real bonus. The only complaint I would have and believe me it's minor, is the silver eggcrate louver. Just not the best design if you ask me.

I have a 24 x 24 soft box that works well for as a key light but putting a blue gel on it to make it daylight balanced eats up too much light and looks unprofessional. The Kino Diva-Lite is the way to go.

The diva 401 is a great cool light for soft indoor lighting. I use it for tight interview lighting where a larger instrument would not work. The newly designed power switch is a big improvement. You may want to carry some gel if you plan to use the dimmer past 25% because you can start chasing a color cast.
Overall a great choice for the traveling DP, photojournalist or gaffer.
It's a good idea to slide some foam into the case between the barn doors and the tubes as extra TSA protection.

Comments about Kino Flo Diva-Lite 401 with Travel & Lamp Cases Kit (120VAC):

I have owned 2 Diva's for years and they are real work horses in my film and video lighting business. I just purchased another 2 from B&H at a very good price and I couldn't be happier. They produce a powerful soft light that can be softened further with diffusion frames or the clip-on diffuser that comes with the light kit. The light color temperature can easily be changed from tungsten to daylight by simply changing out the four bulbs, or mix the temperature by changing out every other bulb to produce a color temperature of approximately 4300 Kelvin. The only drawback is a slight shift towards magenta when heavily dimmed, but I carry 1/8 and 1/4 green Gels to counter this. You also have the option of using 2 bulbs instead of 4 which may reduce your need to dim the light and consequently keeps your color temperature more accurate. Bottom line: Great product from a great company.

I use three of these lights for making how-to videos.
My favorite feature is the switch that lets you choose between 2 or 4 bulbs.
My only small gripe is that the dimmer does change the color of the light just slightly.

I purchased my Diva 400 from B&H and have been using it non-stop. Its a great light for location work, extremely compact and light, power efficient, and can be used as a daylight or tungsten source.

The case is great because its rugged and as slim as it can be for travel purposes.

the only negative comment I have regarding this light (and most fluorescent lights) is that the color from the bulb turns magenta as you dim it down..

Does the job - totally satisfied. 220W is a little weak for some of our interview needs, but the flexibility of dimmer is quite helpful.

Awesome light for shooting video with HDSLRs. With this light, I have the ability to switch from 3200K tubes to 5500K daylight tubes in just a couple of minutes making it very adaptable on location to various lighting situations. It uses very little energy, so no worries about blowing circuits. The built in dimmer allows you to dial in the amount of light you want to balance with existing light. I like this light so much, I own 3.
