I purchased this softie to go over my Rode NTG-2 shotgun microphone. In a moderate wind it did a wonderful job of removing windnoise from my recordings enabling me to shoot in sub-optimal weather conditions.
I wish the rubber seal had the correct thickness so I could screw it onto my NTG-2 (It has a thread around the barrel), as opposed to pulling it on and it sticking in the grooves of the shotgun as it's put on, sometimes removing a bit of the rubber in the process.
That said, it's easy to put over your mic, seals nice and tight and isn't too heavy so I can use it on a camera mounted shockmount with standard bands.

Comments about Rycote Standard Hole Softie Windscreen with 19-22mm (0.74-0.87") Hole Size:
I was using the ~$20 windscreen for my Audio Technica AT897 and it was okay for minimal wind. But at college, we have large gusts of wind and the screen was proving to be a pain in my butt, allowing wind noise to seep through to my audio. I bought this and am totally satisfied with my purchase. It blocks out wind noise like a boss. Highly recommend it.

Good balance between size, weight and wind reduction. Won't solve every wind problem, so important to have more than one tool in the tool box. But this will be main tool and I use it 90% of the time.
You can tak a leg of panty hose and slide over the shotgun before adding softie to add a little more reduction.
Used with AT 835ST in mid-side mode.
57 grams / 2 oz weight.

This softie fits a lot of shotguns, which is nice when you have more than 1 you need to work with depending on the job (I work with 3).
Solid product from Rycote, lightweight and cuts a good deal of wind when outside, protects the mic from sand and snow to a certain degree. Expensive compared to other manufacturers, that's why I gave it 4 stars, but it's well worth the price.

First thing I did was take this to the coast. Usually a moderate wind and this day was no different. This windscreen helps, but some noise still existed. Mildly disappointed, but still better than others. Plus, not nearly as expensive as a blimp setup.
