Comments about Audio-Technica 8449 Shock Mount:

I purchased this mount for my AT 4040. I chose this because it was OEM and I figured since it would be designed specificaly for my mic, from the manufacturer, it would be the perfect, quality choice. Well, I was wrong. The mic is inserted into the shock mount, and is held in place by...wait for it...rubber bands!?! For something this expensive, I expected a solid mechanical mounting method. My AKG has a screw in base for the shockmount - much better design. The way the Audio Technica shock mount is designed, I will have to constantly monitor the rubber band to make sure it hasn't deteriorated, or expanded, so the mic doesn't slip out. I will keep the mount for now, it's doing the job. But I will be looking for a better shock mount long term.

Comments about Audio-Technica 8449 Shock Mount:

I have a 4-year-old AT8449, and I just bought another one to match it. They're nearly identical. The newer one has a beefier stand mount that I like. Fresh elastic is always nice, too. I guess the drawback is having to replace the elastic every couple years. Regardless, these are nice mounts while they last and I'm glad to own a couple.
