I use this for video recording with one of the new ultralight video cameras, a Canon FS100. For this tiny videocam, the weight of the head & handle tends to raise the line of sight, so I needed to tighten the vertical control. As a result, there is a little "grab" when moving vertically, but not much when moving laterally. Overall, would work better for a heavier camera.

This head is very compact and light weight. It works well with smooth pans and tilts. Works super with the small camcorders. I would have given it 5 stars except for the the quick release set up. It is more difficult to slide it in from the back rather than just snap in as with other Manfrotto units. Then when you get it in the slot you still have to tighten a screw on the left side to stop any movement. I'm sorry but this is NO LONGER QUICK! I want to be able to snap in and shoot, not fiddle with another screw!

Comments about Manfrotto 700RC2 Mini Video Fluid Head:

I am shooting a little 3D documentary on the fountains of Kansas City. (Not for public consumption.) I owned the Manfrotto legs but the three way locking head was great for stills not very useful for motion shots.

This mini head allows me to set up quickly and add smooth pans and tilts to my shots. The quicklocking mount makes it easy to easy to take off the JVC Everio and resist the urge to carry around the camera and legs except for small moves.

I'll probably revise this assessment to a five star after using it a few more times. For consumer Hi-Def camcorders, this head is a must have.

Comments about Manfrotto 700RC2 Mini Video Fluid Head:

I purchased this fluid head to reduce the amount of equipment I bring on trips. I own a couple 701 and 502 heads. Both of which are great, but too bulky for light trips. I was expecting a something with far less usability than my other heads. I was way off. This thing is built very well and has a great feel. You can't put a full rig on it, but for a camera, mic and small follow-focus system, it works great. Perfect for traveling and when you need another simple lightweight fluid head. I debated for some time to get this and wish I would have tried one out long before, but I am glad I finally made the purchase. For all shoots I will plan on mounting this on my Induro AT214 for an alternate set-up. And since I use the small Manfrotto Quick plate, going from my full rig to this is a snap. The only complaint I have is in the tightening system. Like my other quick plate holders that feature a cam lock system, this have a screw system that is hard to tighten because the knob is too high and I hit the camera every time. Fortunately it you can pull the knob out and reposition it.

Comments about Manfrotto 700RC2 Mini Video Fluid Head:

Very nice video head on a budget. I decided on this head for the price, functions and the fact that I already had a Bogen tripod. I removed the squeeze ball head and replaced it with this video head. This video head is well made, smooth, locks solidly in place and has a standard Bogen/Manfrotto quick release built in. I shoot both video and stills on the same shoot and this works well for replacing the video with still camera. If you have a digital camera that shoots both HD video and stills from the same camera, then you're all set.

Was looking for a smaller fluid pan head for using on a carbon fiber tripod ..mainly for camera but also a leupold spotting scope. This fit perfectly and is a quality product that just feels right in the hands. It will be my go to combo from now on. Could not be happier

Comments about Manfrotto 700RC2 Mini Video Fluid Head:

This Manfrotto tripod head works beautifully. It is the ideal head that I would use if I know that I will be on the go shooting photos. I have used this with my Canon 5D Mark II using a 50mm & 85mm lens on camping and hiking trips. Of course I would recommend using a more robust head if you have heavier gear (I also have Manfrotto 502HD Pro Video Head with Flat Base (3/8"-16 Connection)).

Comments about Manfrotto 700RC2 Mini Video Fluid Head:

I'm shooting semi-pro video and wanted a fluid head for travel with an RC2 quick release. This head is very smooth, lightweight and overall all you can ask for. You cannot really adjust the speed tension of the pan or tilt, it's either tight or loose, but the loose has very smooth resistance, there are no loose/quick movements with this head. Great for smooth video work, I could see tracking an airshow performance with this head and it turning out great.

                    * One problem does sort of exist. They designed it to work with camcorders that are narrow, so when you put a wide DSLR body on it, the quick release tighten knob gets stuck under the camera body. You can ratchet it though, so the trick is to get the knob just tight enough, mount your camera, then give it a 1/2 turn to tighten it up.

Comments about Manfrotto 700RC2 Mini Video Fluid Head:

I recently bought this to stick on a Revo 33" slider kit for use with a Canon T4i and it has worked like a charm as far as smooth pans and tilts go. The only complaint I have would be that the quick release tighten knob can't complete a full twist with my camera on top. I have to actually partly unscrew my camera to an angle where the knob can make a full spin. It is impossible to use the tripod without tightening and loosening this knob every time you put the camera on it the head so the benefits of the quick-release are almost non-existant. They did try to fix this but making the knob something of a ratchet device where you can pull it straight back, disengaging it from the bolt, reposition, reengage, turn it until you hit the camera again, and repeat. It's badly designed, clumsy, and slow and it's just faster to unscrew the camera to the angle where you can quickly spin the knob. It's bad enough to lose one star in my book.

Comments about Manfrotto 700RC2 Mini Video Fluid Head:

I needed a portable video head for global travel. My 501HDV is way too heavy for my Canon Vixia HF G10 and 60D. This fits the bill. Combined with a Manfrotto 190 XB, it's compact, light and fits in a small tripod case (with my Opteka 33 in. slider. Not quite as smooth as a true fluid head, but smooth enough. Not quite as rigid, either, but fine for a light camera. I know I sacrifice those features, but that's fine for travel. Also a great second tripod for multi-cam shoots.

I use this while hunting to spot animals and this head so far has been very good. It is smooth and light weight. For the price it definately is worth 5 stars.

I bought this to replace a cheap tripod/head that was absolutely horrible. So far the only problem I have encountered is locking the camera to the head. The locking screw hits the body of the camera and won't tighten completely. Otherwise it is fantastic!

Comments about Manfrotto 700RC2 Mini Video Fluid Head:

I have no idea how Manfrotto tested this head before it went into production. Without a camera mounted, it takes a reasonable amount of time to remove the "Quick Release" plate. Once the camera has been mounted, it takes at least 5 minutes to secure it properly. Then to remove the camera, it could take anywhere from 5 minutes to eternity. This Head will definately test your patience. On the plus side, the Tilt is smooth and offers the right amount of resistance. But the Panning although very smooth, offers a bit too much resistance and is designed for use with a very heavy tripod and a person who works out regularly. You also have to be very careful while handling this Head as it comes with a very generous coating of Black Grease, which is hard to get off your hands, and will most certainly ruin your clothes.

Comments about Manfrotto 700RC2 Mini Video Fluid Head:

The 700RC2 is another nice fluid head with the usual smoothness of Manfrotto. The only glitch I have seen has been mentioned in other reviews and that is the QR plate is a little tricky to get out. The QR knob is in the way...it can be adjusted by pulling out, spinning and re-aligning it but you have to do this for every half turn in or out with camera mounted because it is mounted too high and hits bottom of camera. It works its just tricky and takes some getting used to. Other than that it's a nice head...not as good as the 701HDV I used to have of course but a good true fluid head for the price.

Used on Manfretto Tripod for Pentax Spotting Scope. Extremely light, and stable. Need to walk some distances and does make a difference carrying versus the old heavier head. Couldn't be happier.

Comments about Manfrotto 700RC2 Mini Video Fluid Head:

I got this head for digiscoping. It is relatively small, light and inexpensive. The movement is smooth and controlled. So it does what I need it to do. The problem I have is with the control/locking levers that are clustered very close together on the left side of the head. The levers all have the same shape and feel, and the top two levers almost touch each other. I'm always looking through the scope and trying to work the levers by feel. The top lever locks the mounting plate with a screw-in action. After that one-time action, it is just forever in the way. The middle lever releases the tilt action VERY quickly - from completely tight to completely loose in less than 1/8 of a turn. The lever for panning is a locking screw only - there is no real tightening or loosening of the pan action. I think the plate locking lever especially, should be redesigned to a smaller knurlled thumbscrew that won't interfere with the tilt control lever.
