The mecablitz m36C-2 Automatic Flash is part of the Metz 36 series, and features three different auto-working apertures (f/8, f/4 and f/2 at ISO 100/21°). Furthermore, the integrated zoom reflector can be manually adjusted to the given focal length (between 28 and 85 mm), and the reflector can be tilted a vertical direction 90°. It is a good all-purpose auto-flash unit for discerning beginners.

Comments about Metz mecablitz 36-C2 Auto Flash:
This flash is unbelievable I really love it. I love it so much that i made it my main flash. I have the canon 580ex and maney more top brands, but this flash is so cool because i can control the shadows. I use with my canon 5D mark2 n now i can really take artistic photos with two tones. I love how the shadows are fill this flash is really fun i am a wedding photographer and let me tell you the tones i can get with flash are so rich i should to gotten this flash long time a go, I can say honestly my photographey is so deferent now because i can get rich tone and nice shadows with the other flashes they were to strong i would always get flat lighting i hate it because i love shadows. Now is perfect i bene want to get this flash for a long time but since i have top brans like the canons 580 n moer i didn't think this flash woudk do a better job i was so wrong this flash has really impress me. PLease note this flash is for artistic photographers. if you like flat lighting this is not for you but you like shadows then this is perfect. I will highly recommend it, I use it with canons 5dmark2 and the pentax 5x7 with 120 film

Comments about Metz mecablitz 36-C2 Auto Flash:
If you don't want your equipment to do everything for you, or if you are on a budget, then this is a good item to have.
It has more than enough output for most everyday situations, and is a good second flash.
It works, and it is simple to use.
It does require some input and direction from the user--that would be you ;-)

Comments about Metz mecablitz 36-C2 Auto Flash:
as a serious amateur photographer, i use this unit all around my house, taking shots of my pets, family members and still life.
I've had several flashguns over the yearsand this is the best so far. It is well made and it is perfectly adequate for full and partial fill lighting and so easy to use, but would also be a useful tool for a Pro
For the kind of retro style manual camera i use, i can't find any reason at all to fault it, especially for the price.

Comments about Metz mecablitz 36-C2 Auto Flash:
I have several M42 screw mount lens that I have purchaced lens mount adapters to use on my Rebel XSI. By setting the camera on manual, I can use the automatic flash feature of the 36-C2 and not have to make any computations. The Metz unit performs very well. I am pleased with it.

Comments about Metz mecablitz 36-C2 Auto Flash:
I have a canon eos 30D. I use Metz mecablitz 48 AF-1 as the primary flash. I use this flash for side lighting as an off camera flash (with wireless trigger). Till now it worked great. I will not recommend it as a primary flash. The illumination (without diffuser) is not uniform compared to the metz 48. Manual power settings are not there. You have to use at full power and adjust from the camera or if you use the auto mode you need to play with the settings to get what you want. It does what it says. It is safe to use on the canon hot shoe (low trigger voltage, ~10v). I got it verified from metz technical support. The flash is predictable and reliable and does exactly what the manual says. I recommend it very strongly. I also recommend bhphoto [...]

Comments about Metz mecablitz 36-C2 Auto Flash:
I purchased this flash to use on my Fuji FinePix HS10. Fuji recomended it. For some reason the HS10 does not use a dedicated flash system, so you have limited options if you need to use additional on board flash. This is a quality unit and has all the features. The auto mode works quite well. If you camera uses a non dedicated flash i would recomend this unit.

Comments about Metz mecablitz 36-C2 Auto Flash:
i got this flash to use with all of my old manual cameras, from Rolleiflex, Ikontas, Leica, etc. It comes with a PC cord so you don't have to deal with the hotshoe/pc adapters.
The flash has three automatic settings, meaning if you set the ISO, it'll give you three possible choices of apertures to use.
It's manual features have a benefit - you can leave it on one setting (perhaps ISO 400, f/4) and turn off and back on and you don't have to reset it.
What would be nice additions:
1. Swivel function
2. A little white card to provide a little forward flash to fill shadows when using bounce.
It's also relatively small and light. I also have a Pentax AF360fgz (same guide number). The Metz is slightly small but much lighter.
