This mouse is ergonomic, and comfortable. The way the trackball, buttons, and scroll wheel are placed allows me to use four fingers at once, making web surfing a breeze and fast. When I edit video the precision of the trackball is great. Additional benefit is that if you work with three computers at your desk and have what remaining space on your desk covered in paperwork, it needs minimal space.
I have always liked trackballs, but some of my coworkers are completely awkward when they first try it, so if this is your first trackball, give it a little time, and you will soon be addicted like me.
The main problems I have had over the 10 years I have used this mouse, is the distance from the receiver cannot be more than 3ft, and sometimes for some reason, when I put fresh batteries in, it has trouble being recognized by the receiver. I would pay an extra $20 if it had an internal rechargeable battery. These issues would normally turn me off, but once you use it, and then try a conventional mouse or trackball, you get very trackMansick for it.

The Logitech Cordless Optical Trackman. I'll start my review by saying that I'm a longtime MS Trackball Explorer user. I got one as soon as they were introduced. That doesn't mean I haven't tried other trackballs - I have a bunch of them stored away in boxes. The Logitech Cordless Optical Trackman, I'll just call it the Trackman, is very well built. The ball, the scroll wheel and all the buttons work perfectly. I don't have any problem with the construction - it seems strong, solid and feels good to the touch. The fact that it is cordless is great but a cord on a trackball usually isn't important since it need not be moved around like a mouse. I have a problem with the ergonomics. The box the Trackman comes in says it is ergonomic - saying something is ergonomic does not make it ergonomic. With a good trackball you should be able to rest your hand on it in a comfortable position. The Trackman meets that requirement. However, a trackball should allow you operate all the features without moving your hand; move only your fingers (including thumb). Remember these rules; With a mouse you must move your hand to move the cursor and move your fingers to operate the buttons and scroll wheel. With a trackball you do not move your hand, you move only your fingers. Not only should you be able to operate all the buttons, scroll wheel and trackball by just moving your fingers but your fingers should only have to move in an easy and natural manner and with minimal travel distances. With the Trackman the left click button and the trackball can be operated just fine in this manner. With the possible exceptions of the right click button and one of the two buttons above the left click button, all the other buttons and the scroll wheel require you to move your hand to another position. I could elaborate on the required movements of each finger but this review is already long enough. There are some programming problems with the buttons also. I wanted to be very fair in my review of this device. As a long time trackball user I know it takes time to get comfortable with a new trackball. After using the Trackman for over a week I went back and read the many glowing reviews. I could be incorrect, but I believe that most, if not all, the great reviews of the Trackman were written by people who've never used the MS Trackball Explorer or written by first time trackball users. I'm desperately hoping that someone comes out with a good alternative to the original MS Trackball Explorer. My Explorer is over ten years old, I paid [$] at [...] for it. Used ones sell for over $100 now. Logitech is a good company, they make good stuff at a good price. I use their wireless mice and keyboard combos on my other computers. Maybe Logitech will take a good look at the human hand and come out with the perfect trackball. The Trackman is obviously a good trackball but for now the serious trackball user will have to look elsewhere for something far less awkward to use.

It might be considered pricey, but I have been using a trackball from when they first came out over 10 yrs ago and it is the only mouse I will use. Its the best mouse on the market.

Comments about Logitech Cordless Optical TrackMan Mouse - Trackball:
I use this for editing. I would like to train myself to be ambidextrous but can't do so with this mouse. It's only for the right hand. The ball action is smooth, but I would like to make it more sensitive so I move from topleft corner to bottom right in one stroke. I think I can change the settings with the software it came with but my OS is outdated for the software. Also it's wireless but the usb device it large and has a long wire, might has well been wired.

I really like this wireless trackball, but the right-click button is so awkwardly placed on the right side under the ball, that I can hardly use it, without lifting my hand off and aim for it with a finger.

I use the TrackMan with a desktop Mac and it works great and adds a lot of functionality over the traditional mouse by adding a right click option, a roller and lots of comfort.

Really nice product however can't help but feel it's old technology, the USB transmitter/receiver is almost the same size as the mouse and range is bit limited. That said it is more than adequate for what is needed.

I use a keyboard tray and keep it at an angle... the design of this TrackMan is great because it will not slip off the keyboard tray and it stays stationary. My previous TrackMan lasted 6 years and I'm happy to see they kept the same design.

Comments about Logitech Cordless Optical TrackMan Mouse - Trackball:
This Trackman mouse is just the greatest thing since sliced bread. Instead of moving your wrist, you move a huge red ball, you click with your thumb by simply tightening your grip on this comfortable and well-designed mouse - (imagine squeezing another man's hand).
The minimal gross-motor movement makes it ideal for confined spaces, such as plane seats and for people with any kind of hand discomfort.
Now for the con: this mouse was apparently designed pre-Bluetooth and its wireless function operates via a small corded transceiver, about the size of a very small cellphone, which you plugs into the back of your computer. Desktop users won't mind it, but laptop users might find that bothersome. (I attached that thingy to my MacBook with a small Velcro strip). But I'd say that the comfort that this mouse allowed makes up for this and then some!

I have used the cordless optical TrackMan mouse for a number of years at home, and it's my favorite mouse, or at least tied for first with my Apple Magic Mouse. I decided to buy one for my architectural work. Once I programmed the buttons to work with Revit, I don't imagine that I will use any other mouse

After many hours a day of computer use and graphic design others mouses left my wrist and shoulder painful. I have been using this mouse the same amount of time each day but with no pain. The large size is very comfortable even though I have small hands. I would defiantly purchase this mouse again.

I used this mouse in place of my finger pad on my laptop. It works as advertised and was easily installed. The great thing about it is not having to move it. The trackball is a good idea that saves users from having to have the usual space required to move a standard mouse around.

I was told by an occupational therapist that this mouse was too large for my small hands so I went about looking for a new one. I tried the evolent sidways version, the logitech blue marble, and the microsoft natural mouse. All caused pain so I'm back to the trackman that was fine in the first place.

Comments about Logitech Cordless Optical TrackMan Mouse - Trackball:
I had to switch from a "regular" laser mouse which required arm movement to something more ergonomic since I was starting to have severe carpal tunnel symptoms on the right side. I tried a track bar mouse but the sensitivity was unstable as the mouse moved across the screen even with making adjustments via the software. So I gave this one a try. Without the software, it is a little frustrating trying to stop on small boxes that need to be clicked. This makes the included CD invaluable. Plenty of fine tuning is available, and now I'm VERY happy with the results. My arm and wrist pain has gone. I also decided to purchase a Kinesis Freestyle Solo keyboard to go with it. Any carpal tunnel sufferers out there? Give these a try!

Great mouse except the hockey puck sized wireless connector. If it was compatible with the new Logitech wireless system(that has the small USB dongle) I would give this another half star.

Comments about Logitech Cordless Optical TrackMan Mouse - Trackball:
I would have designed the mouse slightly differently as I like to put two fingers on the ball as I've been using the original trackball from Logitech for years. I've been using this product for a week now and I'm finally comfortable with it. I forced myself to use three fingers only on the mouse and in the end it was much more enjoyable. You use your thumb for left button, index finger to move ball and middle finger for right click.
