If there were six stars available, I would give it to this Bogen/Manfrotto bracket. I attached a small ballhead socket to it (removed from an old mini-tripod) and now have 360 swivel and bounce capability. My rig has a small fill flash mounted on the camera and a larger bounce flash on the bracket (connected via off-shoe adapters, but this can be done wirelessly as well) and it really opens up the creativity. The B/M bracket is solid, solid, solid! The handle is very convenient for lugging the rig around and knowing it is very secure. If you need to drive shadows out or cover back walls, it's easy to crane the handle up and hit distant spots.

The bracket is very easy to use in portrait mode, too. Simply loosen the lower knob a *bit* and you can swing the arm but still keep it in place with the proper tension. Works very, very well.

The rig is a bit big, but it means business. If you need a solid performer that will stand up to lots of field use, you would be hard pressed to find a better product than this one.

I admit, I am new to external flash guns. I'm having some buyers remorse with this flash bracket.

Don't get me wrong, this is very well made, it's sturdy in one's hands and works well. It's solid in one's hand. It's also very easy to adjust and adapt. However, if you're in a rush to adjust, this does require a little bit of concentration to adjust perfectly.

However, I will probably be using it more as a mic boom or portable lighting fixture for my video side of work then as a flash bracket.

It's also a bit on the heavy side (but most brackets are.)

It does great for horizontal photography work but when doing vertical portraits, it's just too tall (unexpanded, but adjusted for vertical use) for my Vivitar 283. (that's why it gets 3 stars, I can only use it for 50% of my flash photography.)

So if you have a flash gun that has a rotatable axis, this might be the bracket for you but if you have a foxed flash gun (such as my 1975 Vivitar 283) I would look for something else.

Comments about Manfrotto 233B Telescoping Camera/Flash Bracket:

When I don't shoot with an assistant I needed a bracket that would raise my flash as high as possible. This bracket gives me just what I need. Two issues with this bracket are adjusting the angles and weight. The bracket itself is light but when you add flash and a trigger your camera gets heavy. Also when you loosen the main tension screw it flops all over the place so changing the position on the fly is not easy.

Comments about Manfrotto 233B Telescoping Camera/Flash Bracket:

I use the 233B flash bracket for balanced fill flash at football games when lighting is not good enough for good AVL shots. I adjust the flash bracket at highest point. It helps keep from getting red eye out to 50 yards away when using a 70 to 200 f/2.8 lens. I plan on using it for quick set up portraits when I don't want to set up light stands and pocket wizards.

Comments about Manfrotto 233B Telescoping Camera/Flash Bracket:

This is the fourth bracket I've had, and it's the best and most versatile. It offers more height than you're likely to need in spaces where bounce flash isn't possible, and can be adjusted to a wide range of configurations. Note: It's not mentioned in the product description, but the top mount has both large and small screws for threaded hot-shoe fittings.

You might want a thicker pad on the telescoping arm. I augmented mine with tennis-racket grip tape.

In close portraiture this is an excellent way to move the flash off-camera. Solid build, positive locking, adequate flexibility. In other words, it works.

Comments about Manfrotto 233B Telescoping Camera/Flash Bracket:

I use this mostly for macro (but also wanted something to hold my 580 EXii while controlling the 430 EXii as a slave flash). It takes a minute or to to get used to it, but it is much more flexible that it first appears, and folds neatly down to fit in my Pelican case. Even with an attached battery grip, it meets all of my needs - and it is sturdy, with beefy handles (for my big hands, perfect). A rock solid bracket. Buy this - you won't be sorry!

I use this for my photobooth setup to get the flash above the camera without having to use a separate light stand.
The adjust-ability of being able to angle it forward, backward, and to the side works great. If it were a little bit taller, it would be even better.

Can't really beat it for the cost . It's made well, extends plenty and it's position can be moved around. Used it with a D4 and a Gary Fong lightsphere with good results. Instead of a flash cord you can trigger the flash with the Nikon Commander SU800.

First off, the bracket dosen't come with a shoe mount for your flash, so the user has to work that issue out. As for me, my "stuff" drawer had a mount, so was good-to-go.

That said, I highly recommend a mini-ball (which I also had)

I purchased this bracket to move the flash off my camera...I shoot a Nikon D-7000 with an SB-700 Flash and a Manfrotto LED. This bracket allowed me to place a Manfrotto RC2 Plate Adapter (323RC2) where the camera would normally mount (for quick release function), so I can quickly "snap" the camera in and out. Also, I mounted a spare RC2 QR plate to the bottom of the bracket so I can "snap" this into an RC2 tripod ballhead when needed. Sounds a bit involved but it really works slick and Manfrotto's quality is fabulous. B&H Photo had the product(s) in stock and shipped FAST, they where great to deal with!

For Canon shooters, you just need a OC-E3 and you are good to go. No other adapters needed.

Positives: Well designed and made with solid materials. Stable and flexible: Quick and easy to change height and angle. You can pop it on your tripod too, love that. Breaks down and folds upu to a small size for the bag. It's a pro rig.

Negatives: Knobs are big but that is also a positive. I'd like the hand grip to be a bit beefier but its workable.

Comments about Manfrotto 233B Telescoping Camera/Flash Bracket:

This bracket by Manfotto is what you would expect, a solid piece of camera equipment. But it is limited by the fact that you cannot quickly adjust it between portrait and landscape orientation. And while you can adjust it by loosening a screw it is awkward to do so.

Comments about Manfrotto 233B Telescoping Camera/Flash Bracket:

I purchased a "cheap" flash Bracket a while ago; and, as I said, it was cheap... and fell apart! This bracket is awesome! Although with my big "mits" it would be cool if they had a model for "Man Size" hands... the grip is a tad small. but I would recommend to anyone looking for rock solid construction!

Comments about Manfrotto 233B Telescoping Camera/Flash Bracket:

Very functional and rock solid. Does exacally what it's supposed to and is simple to use. It does take a little time to get everything lined up the way you want it, but works great and holds things secure once everything is set. Folds up nicely considering it's size.

Comments about Manfrotto 233B Telescoping Camera/Flash Bracket:

Pros: Just used it for a wedding last weekend. Its great for holding extra still during the low light shots of the sanctuary. I tuck the 90 degree angle into my left elbow and it is a sturdy base to shoot from.
Cons: Worthless when switching from landscape to portrait. I shoot w/ a Spyder bracket/holster attached under my 7D body. The bracket loosens so I have to keep tightening it over and over. For the money it isn't a bad bracket and that is why I gave it 4 stars.
To do over, I would lay the cash down for a bracket that allows camera rotation between orientations. I am not a fan of the rotating flash. Hope this helps!
