Product Highlights
  • For Diascope T* FL Scopes
  • 1000mm f/12 w/ 85mm Scopes
  • 770mm f/12 w/ 65mm Scopes
  • Requires Camera-Specific T-Mount Adapter
  • Made in Germany

Ultratelephoto photography is easily achieved with your spotting scope by purchasing this SLR camera adapter. You'll need to take precautions to minimize vibrations, such as locking up the mirror if possible as well as using a cable release or remote control to fire the shutter.

First, remove the eyepiece. Next, attach the SLR camera adapter where the eyepiece would normally be attached to the spotting scope, and screw in a t-mount adapter to the opposite end of the SLR camera adapter. Now you can attach your camera to the t-mount and you are ready to begin taking pictures!

Note! Your camera will need to be in fully manual exposure mode, although some brands of camera may also work in aperture-priority autoexposure mode.  Additionally, if there is a switch on the camera which chooses the focus mode, that switch must indicate manual focusing.

Camera can rotate 90° within adapter rather than rotating the entire scope for vertical shots

Very strong coupling to my 85 diascope. I prefer this to swing arm because it was so imprecise.

Comments about Zeiss SLR Camera Adapter:

I use the Zeiss Fotoadapter with my Nikon Digital Camera to photograph wildlife and birds. The adapter along with a T-mount allows me to use my Zeiss scope as a "fixed 1000 mm lense".
For best results mount on a video base on tripod.
It is fixed at f-12 aperture. Works really well in daylight. Have not tried it in low light yet.

Comments about Zeiss SLR Camera Adapter:

Have no doubts about the Zeiss SLR adapter. Like the Zeiss spotting scopes, it features superb optics with precision construction. For prime examples, go to the Minnesota page on my website at: www.geraldbrimacombe.com and look at the images of the loons . . . all shot with the Zeiss 85T scope and Nikon D300S.

Comments about Zeiss SLR Camera Adapter:

Although stuck at a fixed f/12, this "poor man's alternative to a 500mm prime" has suited me well during my first month of usage. Acting as a 2x doubler, this photo adapter turns the 85mm Diascope into a 1000mm lens (770mm for the 65mm). I've taken great pictures of deer, gulls, local rarities, etc. with this piece of equipment, and I'm sure you can as well. I'm shocked I haven't heard of more people using this item. As I'm a birder first, I'd rather carry this small adapter with me and hook it up to my camera/scope instead of carrying a 500mm prime with me in addition to a scope. I'll admit, when switching back-and-forth from eyepiece to adapter, or from telephoto lens to adapter, it can be a bit tedious...but the results are well worth it. Several of us are using it on flickr dot com, so you can view examples there if you wish.

                            Highly recommended!
