Comments about Azden VHF Plug-In Transmitter:

I use this transmitter in conjunction with the Azden WR-Pro wireless receiver. I have the 170.245 MHz model. I have been using it for about six months now for video interviews and reporting. So I have to leave it turned "on" for long intervals (a few hours at a time).

I found the XLR plug a little loose when inserted into the microphone. But I fixed that with some aluminum tape, so it's not a big deal.

My real issue is with the power requirements.

At first, I powered it with a AA NiMH rechargeable and it worked fine. The signal was clear and reliable. I could recharge the battery after each outing.
Recently, I started having some trouble with it. I would get random spikes of statics during interview. Like I was loosing the signal. I came to realize the problem was with the battery.

The Azden WXT/PRO plug-in wireless transmitter does not use a lot of power... HOWEVER, it does require a constant 1.5 to 1.4V. A new, freshly charged rechargeable will deliver a little over 1.4V for a short time, but they are rated at 1.2V. And after only a few months of usage, my NiMH was no longer good enough for this device.
I now use Alkalines, but that means I'll have to replace it every couple of days... even if the battery is not actually dead and could still be used in another device. I'll try Lithium AA in hopes of reducing waste...
