I bought 2 of these slide out shelf units for a 21U flight rack to integrate pedals with preamps and rack effects units in a midi switching system. These shelves are the cats meow, but be aware that because of the padding under the velcro, which is a nice feature, if you have Boss style pedals or pedals with tall controls you will need an additional rack space to accommodate the height of the control knobs on the pedal(s)when sliding the shelf out and back in. So instead of 2 rack spaces, you are now taking up 3 rack spaces for clearance. My space was at a premium, so my solution was to remove the drawer from its slideouts, disassemble and split the unit, then remove the velcro..exposing the foam. Be aware that the foam is glued down extremely well and its a very tedious job to remove it. I spent well over an hour, but the results were a flat drawer surface and my pedals cleared adequately the rack unit above it. I might suggest to SKB the option of offering these fine slideout shelves without the foam for just this type of scenario. Overall, I am extremely pleased with the construction and functionality of this product.
