With a maximum load capacity of 110 lbs, the Manfrotto 528XB Heavy Duty Tripod is built to handle really heavy loads, and ideal for supporting camera jib arms. Despite its obvious strength, however, a close inspection reveals that this tripod offers quite a bit of brains and good looks to go along with its brawn.

The 528XB incorporates a fully adjustable mid-level spreader, which features telescopic ratchet braces that click into place in each of the preset positions for faster deployment. It also features an industry-standard 100mm bowl to accept 100mm half-ball video heads, and reversible leg ends which have rubber feet as well as stainless-steel spikes, for use in virtually any environment.

Construction
Constructed from steel tubes and aluminum leg extensions, the 528XB utilizes a sturdy single-tube leg structure with an adjustable leg spread. The leg spread also incorporates a 30° locked position for faster set-up and greater strength.
100 mm Bowl
Industry standard 100mm bowl accepts 100 mm half-ball video heads and allows the user to level the head quickly and easily for smooth, accurate panoramic work. In addition, the built-in 100 mm claw ball allows for use of the tripod even with heads not equipped with a half-ball.
Mid-Level Spreader
Incorporates a fully adjustable mid-level spreader, which features telescopic ratchet braces that click into place in each of the preset positions for faster deployment. The braces can be immediately set, allowing each leg to be individually positioned for maximum stability. The tripod's wing-nut style locking system further ensures its stability once setup is complete.
Reversible Leg Ends
The 528XB is designed to accommodate heavy loads in virtually any environment. This is evident in the reversible feet, which also have stainless steel spikes for use on uneven terrain.

Comments about Manfrotto 528XB Heavy Duty Tripod:

We use this crane in a variety of situations, from studio work to field production. The build is solid and supports our C100 setup with various lenses and attachments quite well. You will need a heavy duty tripod system to support this crane, so be prepared to spend a lot more on that than for the crane itself. We paired our purchase with a Manfrotto 528XB Heavy Duty Tripod and a 526 Pro Fluid Head.

Assembling the crane is fairly simple, although the directions provided are not as clear as they could be. Adding and removing the extension requires a wrench for moving the camera mount, and there is a different cable that has to be strung if not using the extension. That said, the ability to go from a shorter length to a longer length is very handy and lets you work in multiple situations, and a skilled hand can make the adjustments in 10-15 minutes. Also, be careful with the extension when you don't have it connected; removing the camera mount cross piece removes the structural soundness of the extension, which can bend and warp without it.

As with all cranes, adjusting your counter balance weight is the key. You can use sandbags, but I would recommend getting a varied set of weights if you plan on changing your configuration by adding and removing the extension.

Overall, this is a great crane for the price, but keep in mind that it requires a bit of experience, some tools, and time to adjust to a varied production environment. For our needs, it is excellent.

I got this for my EXFX jib. With a fully rigged F3 on one end it needs over 125lbs to counterbalance. These sticks do the job without worry.

Comments about Manfrotto 528XB Heavy Duty Tripod:

If you're looking for a really sturdy, well-built tripod to hold up a heavy camera load, this Manfrotto is a great choice. It's really strong and stable. It's also fairly heavy and bulky, so be ready for some heavy lifting, especially once you attach a large camera system. I purchased three of these for use with our RED cameras and Sachtler Video 18 SB tripod heads. The mid-level spreader not only adds stability but functions very well in helping to expand and retract the three tripod legs uniformly. The spreader adjustment mechanics are very nice, too. My only complaint is that there's no way to loosen the individual tripod legs and then pull them back up into the unextended position; you have to simply loosen them and then let the tripod lower down to close the extended legs back up into their outer tube. I highly recommend purchasing the Manfrotto 114 dolly system to help move this tripod around.

The tripod will be used to support the Glide cam crane. Like that the half bowl can be leveled. Legs not only lock into place but also has pegs to lock legs for added safety, don't need a camera crashing to the ground if a presser lock does not hold. Works great when panning camera, extremely sturdy. Rubber capped legs or can be converted to use spike on legs, reversible nothing to lose as parts go. Any would using a portable jib arm should consider this tripod leg works very good

I recently purchased an EZ FX jib and this product is heavy duty enough to handle the payload. I greatly appreciate the pins for leg adjustments with the wing nut locks for extra sturdiness. (Make certain the pins point inward).
