With the MKH 416 and the Rycote softie mount and front, the whole rig weighs 2.5 lbs. Great, the pole is quite noisy when using with rycote softie mount. Lots of low frequency jargon. Id probably buy it again just buy the best shock mount you can.

I just replaced my old metal boom pole with this carbon fiber boom pole. I have to say I am a bit disappointed. First of all, when you loosen a collar and try to slide the pole out it sticks and is not smooth at all. I'm not sure if it will loosen up with more use, but right now it makes it difficult in run and gun situations. Second, in my opinion the collars must be loosened several rotations before the pole can be exteneded. I'm use to half a turn and then extend the pole, again difficult to move quickly for ENG work. Third, because this pole tends to stick, it makes far too much noise. This is the first K-Tek product I have bought, I've always heard good things about them, maybe I just have a bad pole. Either way i think I'll go back to my old metal pole, it was quiet and smooth, never got stuck.

Comments about K-Tek K102CCR 5-Section Klassic Series Lightweight Boompole:

This is a solid light weight pole. Smooth to extend and collapse, it holds a Rycote and a 416 perfectly without fatigue on the arms.

What a great pairing for my RODE NTG-3. I love the simplicity and ease it offers. I just screw on my desired suspension system, attach the mic and with the built in XLR it could get any easier. This pole gets the job done while allowing me to be efficient, compact and professional. If you are using a professional boom mic and don't have a pole or a pole with a built in XLR cable, this pole is the way to go.

Great pole. Light, rugged, easy and fast to extend. I really enjoy the internal cable but, as others caution, be careful with handling noise....same with the pole in general. A good mic mount is critical.

Quickly whipped this out over the weekend when a client added an unexpected shot to the production. Luckily it wasn't a long or complicated shot, so I quickly trained a novice how to handle the pole. Worked like a charm, proving that the downsides of the pole can be easily overcome.

I am a little bummed this one did not have the foamy grip wrapped on the handle but carbon fiber is not hard to hold in the cold of the arctic. Next I will get the stereo cabled version.

This item was good on the first try, when you extend it and put it together. However you used it the first time and were ready for the 2nd go at it, tighteners or whatever you may want to call it didn't actually tighten when the pole was fully extended and would be very loose and collapse.. the pole it self was very helpful if at the least it would stay fully expended.

Comments about K-Tek K102CCR 5-Section Klassic Series Lightweight Boompole:

Although this boom pole is nicely made and sturdy, the coiled cable inside will make a surprising amount of noise that will be picked up by a sensitive microphone with the gain turned up on the mixer or recorder. Even a cautious and slow rotation of the pole can result in disturbing noise from the internal cable unless the volume is kept low.

Very lightweight. The side mount XLR connector means I can sit the pole down on it's end without having to worry about the connection.

This is a great length for all around use. I find it much more versatile than the 8.9. It is really light and is built to last. Handling noise is not bad if you keep movement to a minimum.
