I've been using these sticks for a few years now and they don't disappoint. One of the best purchases I've ever made. They are very lightweight and versatile. You can go extremely low, or fairly high, they also have built in retractable spiked feet, when you need extra stability. They can also be taken apart, for easy cleaning, if you get sand or a lot of dirt in the threading.

They definitely aren't meant for a super heavy load, and can be somewhat time consuming to change the height, given the twist locks, but overall an excellent, don't look back kind of purchase.

If you are in the field, outdoors, run and gun, etc., then I suppose this is a good product.

I bought it for live indoor event use, mostly due to it's light weight, and really nice tall 63" max height, great reviews here, and generally excellent reputation of Miller. Unfortunately, it suffers from a bit of torsional flex. I'd say it's a bit whippy and tippy. So for what we do, it's not usable as a solid support where you're fully zoomed in on a podium in the back of an auditorium.

First time using it, I had a shooter who owns the similar model Gitzo. His comment after the shoot was, these legs are pretty bad compared to my Gitzo. I've never personally used a Gitzo, but take that comment for what it's worth...

Comments about Miller SOLO DV Carbon Fiber 2-Stage Tripod Legs (75mm Bowl):

My Trusty tripod broke the other day, and all my attempts to revive it failed. So i had to bite the bullet and purchase a new one. I use the Solo with a 19'' Glide Track Slider and a 501 Manfroto Head on top of that. I use a 5DIII. I have the glide track directly attached to the tripod via a Manfroto 75mm half ball adapter.

It is light and sets up in minutes. I cannot believe I have been working without these sticks.

I have used a Manfrotto MVB351 for a couple of years with my DSLR. I have since moved up to a Canon C100 and Black Magic Cinema Camera. I decided to get these legs since I used them on a shoot and I loved them. They can fit in cars and get level easily. The legs are very stable and forgive surrounding vibrations well. I love the fact that it comes with the ice spikes. Light and easy to use, what could I ask for more????

Great legs, only issue is that adjusting height is a three step dance where some other tripods just slide and lock off more easily.

Comments about Miller SOLO DV Carbon Fiber 2-Stage Tripod Legs (75mm Bowl):

Very light weight. Love the spreaderless design. Long legs and versatile leg lock system mean it can go both very high and very, very low with ease. Feet with both rubber tips and spikes adapt easily to a variety of surfaces. Fast and easy to set up; padded legs and strap make it easier and more comfortable to carry than any other tripod I've owned.

It is not perfectly rigid with the legs extended all the way; I will probably try to avoid extending the second leg stage unless absolutely necessary for added height. The rotary collet locks on the legs seem rather retro compared to the lever locks on other tripods I own, but they are oversized, have excellent grips, and seem sturdy enough.

All in all, this is optimized as a highly portable tripod for field use (which is what I wanted), and it's excellent for use on uneven surfaces and if you frequently need low angles. But there are probably more rigid tripods for the money if you need something for use indoors, or have plenty of time to move and set them up.

Comments about Miller SOLO DV Carbon Fiber 2-Stage Tripod Legs (75mm Bowl):

Tough and lighweight, particularly compared to other sticks in this price range. Only complaint: It takes a little while to get quick with the hardware that locks the angle of the legs if you're not accustomed to Miller's system. Gitzo's is more intuitive to me, but that may be more a function of my ingrained habits than an intrinsic disadvantage. To that point, each time I use them it get's a little smoother. Either way, I like it better than using a spreader.

I use Miller tripods for supporting my Canon HD camcorder. The solo sticks are light, fit in a duffle suitcase, and were nearly as easy to set up as my full-size set of sticks, which require a heavy special case for airline check-in. Performance was excellent. Highly recommended.
