WARNING: Not compatible with "full-frame" (35mm size) cameras.

The AF DX Fisheye-NIKKOR 10.5mm f/2.8G ED Lens from Nikon provides an extreme 180º picture angle, equivalent to that of a 16mm fisheye lens in the 35mm format. It is compatible with Nikon DX format DSLR cameras and creates the distortive visual effect of a non-circular fisheye lens that fills the entire rectangular image frame.

With Nikon's Close Range Correction System the lens elements are configured in a "floating" design and each lens group moves independently to achieve focus. This ensures superior lens performance even when shooting at close distances. Also, an Extra-low Dispersion glass element minimizes chromatic aberration for clear, natural colors, and an aspherical element reduces spherical aberrations. Super Integrated Lens Coating reduces flare and ghosting and a built-in petal shaped lens hood deflects stray light that can cause flare and provides a degree of protection for the lens' front element.

This G-type Nikkor lens is designed with no aperture rings, and offers easier operation. A minimum focus distance of 5.5" enables you to get very close to your subject and the rounded seven-blade diaphragm helps to create a natural look to out-of-focus highlights.

Fast, fisheye-type ultra-wide angle lens is designed exclusively for use with Nikon DX format DSLR cameras and provides a non-circular 180º perspective.
Equivalent to 16mm focal length on a 35mm.
Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass element minimizes chromatic aberration.
Close-Range Correction (CRC) provides high performance for sharper images when taking pictures up close.
Delivers high-performance focus at extremely close range; a minimum focus distance of 5.5" (14 cm) -- only 1.2" (3 cm) from the lens front.
The rounded 7-blade diaphragm opening makes out-of-focus elements appear more natural.
Fixed petal-shape lens hood greatly reduces stray light.

I can't say enough good things about it. Optical qual/IQ is fantastic. Images are sharp, and I've heard complaints about CAs but I tooks some pictures with the sun shining thru some trees without any noticable fringing. Anything beyond 2 ft might as well be inifinity, so it's very easy to use this lens. I only have flare issues when the light is shining across the lens sideways, otherwise it is VERY well controlled (magical Nikon coatings?).

Physically the lens seems well made, tho the hood is plastic (i think on the 16mm it's metal). It is very compact and light weight (anybody complaining about weight has probably only ever used a 18-55mm kit lens).

You can use this lens to exagerate proportions/distortion, you can use it to accentuate/isolate objects, you can use it if you have ultra-short working distances to your subject, and you can use it in a manner that somewhat masks the distortion (which is what I tried to do in the attached images).

I considered the Tokina for its zoom capability, but it wasn't as "fast" and supposedly had a little more CA (despite also using a low-dispersion element). The Tokina has a mad following for underwater use, so if you're going diving, probably consider that one first for availability of focus rings and domes. Neither have AF-S/SWM.

The outer element seems to be magnet for dust. I just keep my Rocket blower with me and I'm all set.

I used to make a manual panaromic with my camera and now with this fish eye, i now can make it a real wide angle magic and really can now use it to my optimum requirement of 180 degree. I use a software to make the edges straight and i am sure this is an wonderful toy, i ever had it before.

Comments about Nikon 10.5mm f/2.8G ED DX Fisheye Nikkor Lens:

I paired this lens with a D50 when I made the initial jump to digital in my semi-pro days. Love this little piece of glass, It's still alive and kicking after many years of rugged abuse. It suffers a little when using the DX crop on an FX body, but that is to be expected. I would definitely recommend this for a DX format body or someone looking to save a little money on a fisheye for a full frame body.

I have a Nikon 16mm fisheye for FX, a Bower 8mm for FX/DX and this one. This does a great job, like the 16mm. An important accessory for these is Fisheye-Hemi software from Image Trends. This was the primary reason for adding a third fisheye to my collection. The software does a great job of removing excess curving in the image, when desired.

I originally bought this lens for skateboard photography. Fast at 2.8 and really produces great results. You'll also be surprised at the other uses... interior shots (getting the entire room), interesting group portraits, I also love taking "selfies" with it because you can get a large group in the pic OR if it's just you, you get a full view of the background.

Love this lens. I took it on a recent trip and got some amazing photos that could not have been achieved with my 18-200.

My wife got this lens for me for Christmas. It was on my BH wish list, but I never expected in would await me under the tree. I have only used it a couple of times, but it is an awesome addition to my collection. Not only is it a great "special effects" lens, but it's a great wide angle lens for landscapes. The nice part about this lens is that it is small, yet powerful, and it's easy to use and have fun with. If you're looking for that extra special lens to help you stand out, this is the one. You won't regret it!

Comments about Nikon 10.5mm f/2.8G ED DX Fisheye Nikkor Lens:

No other manufacturer makes a fish-eye lens of this quality for a APS-C (Nikon DX) sensor camera. Beautiful, frame-filling wide angle photos Fast (f2.8). Nikon Capture knows the lens characteristics and can straighten out the photo for a 180 degree wide-angle picture. Get one, you won't be sorry.
