I always shoot with a "E" type focusing screen. It allows for fast and accurate composition and greatly reduces "tilted" shots.

I have 6 Nikons in my inventory - every one of them has the grid screen to give the assurance that I have lined up my subjects from people to buildings and trees correctly. The E-Screen for the D2XS is essential!!

taking away a star for ..not on thirds and the lines don't light red

I am a wildlife/outdoor photographer, and use the gridlines for framing and spacing. I worked without one for years until i shot with a D70 for a weekend. Turned on the grid and saw my photography improve immidiatly. Bought one for my D2H and won't ever be without one again. No more slightly leaning photos, or slightly strange framing! This means a better shot from the camera, wich means less time at the computer...and that means even more time behind the lens where I want to be! If you are worried about it being "too much" in the viewfinder like I was...It isn't, and if you aren't sure tuen on the grids on a newer digital body in a store and try it out.
