The Heliopan 39mm UV SH-PMC Filter is a general use, clear filter that helps to absorb ultraviolet light and reduce the bluish cast of daylight. No additional coloration or contrast is provided, allowing you to pair this filter with others. The UV filter is also useful as a general protective filter to leave on lenses at all times. Filters help to reduce dust and moisture from reaching your lens element and provide additional protection in case of drops or situations where scratching could occur.

The SH-PMC multi-coating provides a total of 16 coatings, 8 per side, for significant reflection reduction (below 0.2%) as well as dust and moisture repellence for easier cleaning.

This Heliopan filter is constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. It features a brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

Comments about Heliopan 39mm UV SH-PMC Filter:

The big issue with the Heliopan filter SH_PMC vs the B+W MRC is the high cost. The Heliopan cost is almost double that of the B+W. Both have Schott glass. Both are multicoated. Having been a B+W devotee, I can say that they are great filters. However, the trend to mount them in a chrome ring makes me wonder if the B+W filters may be contributing to flare. Even when you get the black mount B+W F-pro filters, there is a definite rim around the B+W glass on which they place their labelling. This tends to cut into the glass area.

The Heliopan filters have a very thin rim - the thinnest that I've seen. They leave the maximum amount of glass area for the lens to see out of. They are in black powder coated brass, so they don't bind, and they don't cause stray reflections. For that reason, I've been putting them on my Leica Summicrons - 50, 35 ASPH. I've also have them on my 21mm lenses. You don't need UV filters for filtering UV on modern Leica glass (or other brands of modern lenses). But, they do protect the front elements of your expensive lens from injury. Not just for sand, windy environments either. Little children like to poke their fingers into things, including your lens.

You won't go wrong with either brand of filter, but for wide and super wide angle lenses I prefer the Heliopan.
