Berlebach has been manufacturing beautifully finished pieces of German craftsmanship for over a century, and then as now the natural advantages of wood continually appeal to discriminating shooters. Handling a wood tripod in extremes of heat or cold is quite a different experience than that of a metal or even carbon fiber tripod. Wood just seems not to care.

But despite wood's impervious nature to temperature and its general asthetic appeal, the best reason to choose wood over any other material for a tripod is its incredible ability to absorb vibrations. A wooden tripod placed in a shallow stream may be vibrating quite a bit where the legs meet the water, but up at the column it is dead as a doornail. Putting a laser pointer on top of a metal, carbon fiber and wood tripod and shaking the legs of each clearly displays the advantage. The laser pointer's beam upon the wood tripod will have come to a rest much quicker than the others, and additionally its resonating disturbances will be smaller as well. This will assuredly show up in your pictures!

The 50031 is the tabletop model in the Berlebach line, offering a good range of height adjustment in a package that can support a great deal of weight for the breed.

Comments about Berlebach 50031 Wood Tabletop Tripod Legs:

I really like this little tripod! The day I got it I spent half the day using it on my deck taking pictures of flowers and clouds passing by. On a vacation I used it much more than the regular sized tripod and took many shots right off the picnic table, even with a 300mm lens that is built like a tank. It was just fine taking some long astronomy night exposures as well as people shots lit by nothing more than a little candle lantern. The latest version of the mini tripod from Berlebach addresses the only weakness I see here and that is the feet. The new version seems to use the spike/rubber tip that their Report tripod uses and that's a nice touch.I liked this little rig for macro and ground level shots which I used my remote control and the K-5's live-view to compose with because it was so low to the ground. It made some deep field of view, f16 & f22 shots possible that just would not have happened any other way, including using the "adult sized" tripod I had with me. I have to say I'm looking forward to using this Mini Tripod at the Denver Botanic Gardens in the near future.

      Neat little tripod

Comments about Berlebach 50031 Wood Tabletop Tripod Legs:

I bought this tripod to use with a spotting scope, and it has more than filled the bill.

I fitted it with a Manfrotto 808RC4 head, and it supports my Nikon scope solid as can be. I can adjust the focus knob without the scope moving at all.

No center column, so height adjustment is done by extending and retracting the legs, or folding the legs in and out. For me, when used from the bar on my deck, the legs are fully retracted and folded out to their first notch. On the front porch table, the perfect height is achieved by keeping the legs fully retracted while spidering them out to the second notch.

This is a very solid tripod. It will probably support much more than its rated capacity of 8kg.

          And it looks good, too!

Well made. The tripod didn't support my geared tripod head, focusing rail, camera, and macro lens.

Comments about Berlebach 50031 Wood Tabletop Tripod Legs:

Use this for as much as a D300 plus 70-200 plus TC 17. Not a Gitzo but, in a pinch, it's a lot better than a monopod or a cheap tripod. Got some very good static bird and small animal pictures with it. Packs easily and made beautifully. With a small ballhead on it, it's a great travel combo. Need a table or other flat surface and take your DR-6 along as well.
