Wimberley has a system of flash bracket components that are modular, versatile and easily stowed in a small space when not in use.  Known as the Shape-Shifter Modular Flash Bracket System, the components connect without tools.  None of the combinations slip, twist or creep-even during intense action.  They're integrated with the venerable Arca-Swiss type quick release system, now dominant as the industry standard for macro and telephoto shooting.

The Perpendicular Plate gives you a dovetail plate that is perpendicular to the original direction of your camera body plate.

Since the dovetail on most camera body plates is oriented perpendicular to the axis of the lens, adding the perpendicular plate gives you a dovetail plate that is parallel to the axis of the lens.  This is useful for attaching telephoto and macro brackets to your camera body.  The Perpendicular Plate can also be used to make small forward and backward adjustments for macro photography.

No Tools, No Creep, No Lost Parts
Wimberley's modular Shape Shifter system needs no tools for use.  Components quickly and easily connect to one another, with a design that makes creep or twist during use simply impossible.  All knobs are captive, and cannot fall off accidentally from being unscrewed too far.

Comments about Wimberley Module 8 M-8 Perpendicular Plate:

I use this T plate whenever I find a need to mount my DSLR on a Gimbal head with arca-swiss type clamp. It works very well. I like it better than the equivalent RRS T plate because it is a bit lighter and the grove on the sides goes all the way along the edge so I can clamp the DSLR in any position (forward/backward) I want. The only complaint I have is that I just wish the tightning knob was a bit smaller and lower (like on the RRS plate) so it does not bump the left side of my L plate (I can only clamp it on the right or center of my RRS 1Ds L plate)

Comments about Wimberley Module 8 M-8 Perpendicular Plate:

I bought the M-8 so I could mount my DLSR on my Wimberley Gimbal tripod head when using a lens that does not have a collar. Without it, I could still mount my camera, but if I wanted to tilt up or down, I had to adjust the tripod's legs - kind of defeated the purpose of getting a gimbal head.

It turns out that the M-8 is useful if I want to attach the Wimberley F-1 flash bracket onto my gimbal head set up or handheld. Since the Q/R plate my main telephoto lens, an old school Nikon 300mm f/2.8 AI does not extend far enough to accomodate attaching the flash bracket, I can attach the M-8 onto my camera's plate and then attach the flash bracket onto the end of the M-8 - the same way would if operating in handheld mode with the flash bracket.

I have been leaving the M-8 on my camera's plate almost all the time, since it usually comes in handy. And if need be, I can quickly remove it.

Lastly, it makes switching from vertical to horizontal easy when I use the gimbal head - and since i have the L plate for my camera. I leave the M-8 secure to the gimbal head, loosing its M-8's knob to release my camera, turn my camera to horizontal or Vertical and re-attach it onto the M-8 plate.

Comments about Wimberley Module 8 M-8 Perpendicular Plate:

Perfect for mounting a camera on a gimbal mount when the lens does not have a tripod collar. This is because a lens plate is usually installed at 90 degrees to a camera plate. I use this with a Canon 7D and 135 F/2 and 1.4 EX III. Solid...secure...and the craftsmanship is exquisite. Lots of room to adjust for good balance. This is a very well crafted adapter...beautiful in its workmanship.

Comments about Wimberley Module 8 M-8 Perpendicular Plate:

The main reason I bought this was to mount my D700 with wide angle lens and L bracket to the Wimberley Head. That way, I could use just the Wimberley head in the field for my telephoto shots and my wide angle shots rather than having to take along a ballhead too.
However, I was pleased to see that the plate can also be used for other purposes apart from the Wimberley head. For instance, it can be used to attach one or two flashes to the camera. I'm glad I bought this very versatile plate.

Comments about Wimberley Module 8 M-8 Perpendicular Plate:

I use this with the Wimberley Macro F-2 Bracket. I mount the camera (with a arca-swiss style plate) on this M-8. This plate will now run perpendicular to your camera base but parallel with your lens.

I then can mount this on the F-2 Bracket and my handheld or tripod macro setup is complete.

With this plate, I can shift the bracket forward and closer to the lens or futher. So I have more lateral movement compared to without the use of this plate. Especially useful when tripod mounted.

This is a high quality plate to keep my Camera body mounted to My Wimberly II Gimble Head. Comes in very handy to take landscape and other shots.

It is a little costly but its worth it.
