Comments about Behringer GMX212 True Analog Modeling 120W Guitar Amp with (2) 12" Speakers:

I have had this amp for 6 or 7 years, and nothing is broken on it except a few tears in the soft vinyl (not Tolex) skin, and a few loose 1/4" jacks. I often get compliments on the sound, and since I took the Behringer badge off of it ;), I've been asked if it is a custom tube amp, (by a drummer...).

I use the amp off and on about twice a week, playing out about once a week. With practice, you can easily emulate many great sounds. I currently have it set up for an AC 30-ish chime on the clean channel and for high gain Marshall-ish bark on the lead. It sounds as good as the day I got it, maybe better, since the speakers are now broken in.

One time, when I was playing bass, the guitar player's (high dollar) Rivera combo developed a bad tube. I had my trusty Behringer back stage, so I brought it out and tweaked it to replicate the guitarist's sound. The look on his face was priceless- the sound was almost identical, especially on higher drive settings. The barely overdriven crunchy-clean was a little grainier, lacking the Rivera's smoothness, but in all, we finished the rest of the night with no-one else noticing the swap.

On the whole, the GMX212 sounds more real to me than digital modeling amps. The edge of crunch where the tone is supposed to "sparkle" is not a smooth buttery jangle, but it does a better job than most all digital emulations. The jacks and knobs are not heavy-duty, and require care in handling. The vinyl cover is pretty poor- too soft, but it is still on the amp with the exception of a few dings. The effects are ok, but dated and ameturish sounding to me. A (very) small touch of reverb is all I use most of the time.

    Sound- 4.5
    Durability- 3
    Tweakability- 5
    Value- 5, baby, 5.
