You can now get quality softbox lighting from certain battery portable flash systems. This 19" SP Systems Octagonal Softbox has a silver interior and removable front diffuser. This softbox fits Norman LH2 and LH52 portable heads, and most Quantum Q Flash and Lumedyne lampheads.
No speed ring adapter is required for Norman, Quantum or Lumedyne heads. Each Softbox attaches to the lamphead like a standard reflector. On Norman lampheads, just position over the flashtube and tighten the reflector locking screw.

Seldom have I found a product that is as well built as this softbox and so reasonably priced. It sets up quickly and the diffuser front can be removed to turn the softbox into a small umbrella if desired.
It can be collapsed in seconds and the diffuser can be left attached. Includes a decent storage bag to protect the fabric when not in use. When it is collapsed and in the bag it is only 14 inches long and small enough to easily fit in a travel case.
It is as large a softbox as I want to use outdoors and its size adds to its versatility in this regard. In the past I would have used the Qflash in bare bulb mode for outdoor shooting so it is nice to have another way to get a soft light that is very portable.
With the Qflash it is easy to blow out subjects at distances under 15' and this softbox helps tame the output considerably.
For the price one would expect a poorly made unit but this one is first rate in every respect.

Small but OK
Works fine, but does not lock into a T5d-R. Loses about 2 stops. OK size for a head shot

I use with Qflash T5D-R for wedding and location portraits. The good? Cheap and a octobox. The bad? Well it's cheap. You do get what you pay for with this octobox.

Comments about SP Studio Systems EZOctagonal Softbox - 19" (48cm) Diameter:
Compared to the Quantum box or sphere, this octagon yields amazing results. The price is more than fair.
Btw, it does not take 2 stops away, it is works exactly as if I was using the sphere diffuser.

Comments about SP Studio Systems EZOctagonal Softbox - 19" (48cm) Diameter:
I was looking for a convenient alternative to having to put softboxes together on location or travel with them attached to my Norman Heads. It obviously doesn't replace my large softboxes but it's not the 19" as labeled. The outside diameter (not even the diameter of the diffusion material) is only 17 inches.

I use these on Quantum Qflashes. Soft flattering quality of fill lighting when outdoors. I also use them for on location shoots where I don't need large volumes of light. Very quick to setup and attach. Sandbag your light stand if you are outdoors! They can act as a sail in the wind.

A terrific diffuser for the powerful QFlash lights. One caveat is that the softbox will potentially contact the top of your lens if the QFlash is mounted on your camera shoe-mount.
I use this product on a remote QFlash (either TRIO or T5-dR so it is not a problem for me.

Comments about SP Studio Systems EZOctagonal Softbox - 19" (48cm) Diameter:
We use the softbox whenever we need to diffuse the light from our Lumedyne and Norman portable battery flash kits--low light situations and evening photo shoots. Easy to set up. Durable, but don't toss it in the bottom of your kit, because the aluminum arms will get bent. Treat it right, and it will last a long time.
