This is a nicely machined piece of brass. I've had other brands where I've had to re-thread the product before I could use them, a royal pain. The Manfrotto 013 didn't have that problem and I think worth the extra cost.

Don't join two small half spigots together to make one of these. It may look the same, however when gear is attached and weight applied, swivelling will occur. Use a double ended spigot.

If you are a proffessional grip or camera person this is an essential gadget to have. You can lock it into any C-Stand knuckle to mount a light and some small monitors will fit on the screw thread. If you are on a tight budget, you can get a Mafer type clamp for about $20-30 from B&H that comes a removable and similar stud. Owning more than one is not a bad thing.

This is a very versatile item when you do not need the position lock provided by a hex end on the stud. The brass is sort of soft; if you clamp too tightly, you will leave a mark in the surface of the spigot. Were it not for that, I would give it the fifth star.
