Leica Tabletop Tripod with Folding Legs (1/4" Screw)

B&H # LETT Mfr # 14100
In Stock
Free Expedited Shipping
You Pay: $119.00

This table-top tripod has been available from Leica for many years. It is extremely sturdy and compact - the legs rotate together to make it flat for storage. This feature allows this tripod to fit places where standard tripods do not. It has a standard 1/4-20" top screw thread. Leica recommends their #14110 ballhead for it.

      Comments about Leica Table Tripod:

I own a Leica Table tripod made in 1970s, when Leica was in Wetzlar. And I recently decided that I need one more table tripod so that I can leave a different ballhead permanently attached to it. I have been looking for a good table tripod for several months. After having tried and looking at every table tripod available in the local stores I was also able to look at several dozen models in B&H Superstore in Manhattan. I should have known better than to waste my time looking at all the alternatives. Leica Table tripod is still the best option out there. There are several reasons for it:1. Very strong construction. The legs are cast from aluminium and only the bottom two legs rotate, which leave the top leg and the base static, since the base is part of the leg and not a separate piece like on Kirk Mini Table tripod. This is important, since it means that when you need to make slight adjustments to the position of the legs when you're using the tripod as a form of chest brace or wall brace, it is going to prevent the ballhead (or camera) from rotating wildly when you release the winged tension nut. You can't easily perform this procedure with the Kirk Mini Table tripod. 2. It can safely support very significant weight (supposedly up to 100lbs!). This means that you only need to worry about the weight limitations of your ballhead (if you're using one) and the Leica tripod will provide you as rock solid a platform as can be.3. It folds neatly and can fit in almost any cramped gear pack or bag. There is practically never a reason to leave it behind.4. Being that it is aluminium and is painted black, it will get hot in the sun. Since aluminium conducts heat quite well it means that it will cool off quickly as well. I found this "accidental feature" to be quite useful when shooting photo or video in the heat of the day. If the tripod gets too hot to handle it probably means that it's too hot for your camera too. Get them both to shade before you burn your electronics!5. It's still Made in Germany.Overall, even though I did buy the Kirk Mini Table tripod for a very niche purpose that I have (see my review for the Kirk table tripod), I find that the Table Tripod by Leica is still the best there is. Sometimes, "if it ain't broke - don't fix it" is still the way to go. This design has not changed in decades and why should it? It still works!

        Comments about Leica Table Tripod:

I bought this to use not only as a tabletop tripod but for a chest-pod when using my D800 with pro lenses. I mounted a Really Right Stuff BH-25 ball head on top which provided enormous flexibility and support. This little tripod fits in my pocket but can easily support a D3s with 70-200 lens! It was admittedly a little pricey but if you want stability and longevity this can't be beat.

            Comments about Leica Table Tripod:

It is very handy and versatile,if you combine it with ball and socket heads (eg.Leica 14110).You can hold steadily against your chest,,fence, wall or pillar. It can let your camera at low level on the ground ,and it will create a fantastic perspective veiw. Most suitable for Leica M and compact Digital Cameras and very convenient for a trip with light gears.

              Comments about Leica Table Tripod:

Very very sturdy and works well with the Leica Ball Head. It's not as quick to deploy as a tripod with legs at a fixed angle that fan out from the center but you do gain better positioning flexibility if you need to use it some place where even spreading the legs isn't practical. It will last a lifetime. Expensive, especially when you add the ball head, but it's really a great set up. I am very happy with it. I am using it with a Leica X1.

                  Comments about Leica Table Tripod:

Simple and elegant design, the three legs can be rotated to many possible positions with an easy twist of the wing nut on the bottom. Coupled with a RRS BH-25 ballhead, it's perfect for those times when lugging a full size tripod is impractical.

                      Comments about Leica Table Tripod:

I use this tripod, together with Leica's Ballhead, as a chest pod for my Nikon D90 and Nikkor 18-200 lens. I press the three legs against my chest and tilt the camera to my eye. My body acts kind of like a monopod, giving me stability for available light images. This Leica Tripod and Ballhead have served me for over thirty years. Yet I see their coming demise: the new CMOS sensors that record at ISO 6400 and higher. This may make tripods and even image stabilization obsolete for most situations.

Have my Markins M10 w/ RRS Clamp and 40D w/ 24-70mm F2.8 mounted on this little tripod. The tripod can handle this weight pretty easily. Not sure what the max load on this tripod is but it seems pretty rock solid with the equipment I have.

A little pricey, but for peace of mind, it's worth it.

I bought this tripod after I returned Chinese Giottos that just could not support the weight of D200.I used it with D200 and heavy F2.8 70-200 AFS VR and F2.8 AFS 28-70 Nikkors. Absolutely perfect for my intended use on coffee tables during travels. I could not believe that it would work so well with heavy load till I tried.I also bought a Really Right Stuff ball head BH-25 that makes the entire setup very stable. I would not use the tripod without the ball head so. Tripod + ballhead weights close to nothing and will fit in any camera bag pocket. I was looking for something light, small and stable. Amazingly I found it. Bravo Leica + RRS!!!

Previous Equivalent Items Owned: I tried Giottos that was not usable.
