Cokin P121M Graduated Gray G2 Neutral Density Resin Filter - Often it is necessary or desirable to balance the light intensity in one part of a scene with another. This is especially true in situations where you don't have total light control, as in bright contrasty landscapes. Exposing for the foreground will produce a washed-out, over-exposed sky while exposing for the sky will leave the foreground dark and under-exposed.
Cokin graduated gray ND filters are part clear, part neutral density. They allow the transition to be blended into the scene, often imperceptibly. A ND.6-to-clear, with a two stop differential, will generally compensate the average bright sky-to-foreground situation and is also the most popular density of the series.
This filter measures 85 x 85mm and fits the Cokin P series holder.
The Cokin 121 series of filters comes in five variations of graduation:

I don't own the Cokin filter holder, I purchased just this filter only. I thought it would be better than a circular filter since the circular ones seem a bit limited, since they can't be raised or lowered.
The filter works as intended, and the difference is really noticeable between photographs I've taken of the same landscape with the filter on and the filter off. I use a rubber lens good to keep from scratching the filter when using it. I just hold the filter in front of the lens by hand and that works great.
I"ll probably end up getting the filter holder and other filters as well.
The only con I can think of was that the filter came in a hard plastic case. Something soft or padded would have been nice, but I'll just wrap a microfiber cloth around it and then put it in the case.

These Cokin filters work like a dream at a great price. I don't use the holder - just hold them up in front of my lens with my fingers. I've scratched my expensive filters up before so I now buy these.

A neccessity to use in certain situations. I find the G2 better than the G1 if you need one for all around use. Scratches easy, so need to be careful with it.

A good filter for the price. The grad is not quite straight or level, but I was pleased with my first results. If you're looking to experiment without spending a lot of money, then I recommend this filter. If you want the best, I'm sure there are better filters.

Comments about Cokin P121M Gradual Grey 2 Medium Neutral Density Resin Filter:
Its a decent filter for the prize.
Does its job as intended.
Filter looks extremely cheap, almost like a cheap window of a chinese made toy bus... but the box looks more expensive then the filter ... in fact the box is made of really good durable platsic material and looks elegent. I think Cokin needs to spend more money on the glass even if it means giving cheaper or no box.
The filter definately looks rediculously cheap on my L glass but at the moment I am willing to spend only this much as I need to learn more about using filters correctly. Once I get good at it, I will definately buy better quality filters. I would recommend it only for those who have entry level lenses or if you are like me who wants to learn first before spending extra on better filters.

Cokin Graduated Gray ND filters are my favorite for the price. I've tried Hitech but was not completely happy with them. I guess I just expected more cause I paid more.....my bad. I assume I would have to make the jump to the really pricy ones for a noticeable improvement. (Just a guess)
But I don't think I would grab the expensive ones anyway. I tend to work fast(rush) and as a result my filters get abused. Cheap ones are easier to replace.

Great for balancing skies or overexposed parts of your image. Its hard to use with out the holder on wide angles i get my fingers in there sometimes on the 16-35mm L. It does scratch easily because its plastic, and im sure it effects the image quality somewhat. Its also common to get lens flares since you cant use your lens hood. Its a small sacrafice to make. Id recomend getting a darker one also for bright sunny days, this one is great for balancing sunsets. Overall worth it to have in your bag of tricks, plus if you shoot film, you need it!!!!!!! Sometimes it tricks your metering system so be careful when metering using your camera.
