The Linhof cable releases are ridiculously well made and built to last-one often encounters perfectly operational Linhof releases upon the secondhand market, manufactured more than half a century ago and with many thousands of exposures under their belt.  They have a particularly long, strong throw.  In fact, they are amongst a very short list of cable releases which can trigger Copal Press shutters(which release and cock again all in one action, requiring more force) with crisp reliability.

The 002430 is a 17" (43 cm) cable release that helps prevent camera shake for super telephoto shots, macrophotography and bulb exposures.  Cable releases are also quite handy for taking pictures of difficult-to-approach subjects as well as minimizing vibrations with closeup and lengthy timed exposures.

Comments about Linhof Heavy Duty Cable Release with T-Lock - 17":

OK, I do not currently photograph using large format equipment. Now, with that out of the way, I have used Linhof cables in a variety of 35mm, digital, and medium format applications.

It was not always easy to thread with such a short nipple on the tip; I have to admit there were a couple of challenges when wearing gloves or when the tip had to go into a "tight spot". I am confident that with a lesser cable release, I would have experienced no difficulty in threading in the release, vs. that short little nipple that Linhof insists on using. On the other hand, I have used lesser cables, MANY of them. Despite that pesky short nipple, I have yet to find a cable as reliable in any situation. Raining cats & dogs? No problem. -20 deg (F)? No problem. Need that shutter held open in order to capture those perfect star trails? No problem. And smooth? Oh boy, this release moves like it is a knife in hot butter. It is heavier and more durable than any other release I have used and the action does not bind or become stiff if the cable is not perfectly straight (as SO many do!).

I switched to Linhof cables probably 15 years ago. They are one of the things I missed about the arrival of digital photography. Now that there are many digital cameras out there using a traditional cable release, I have had the joy of falling in love with the Linhof releases all over again.

Comments about Linhof Heavy Duty Cable Release with T-Lock - 17":

This cable release has a major design issue. The threaded collar has only 3mm (1/8") of grip to attach it to any lens shutter (large format in my case). Essentially you'll need a pair of long nose pliers to attach it—yet another thing to carry. I can't believe Linhof could overlook such an essential element of usability. Look closely at the photos—the threaded lock is tiny. It's a shocker.

I suggest buying another brand as there is nothing great about this one. It's badly designed and not worth the money. I'm returning mine.
