The Manfrotto 322RA Quick Release Adapter can be a replacement RC2 quick release assembly specifically for the 322RC2 Grip Action Ballhead, or it can be used as an additional camera adapter so that the weight of your camera stays centered over the tripod whether you're composing a horizontal or a vertical image. RC2 (3157N) type plates are required for this adapter.

I purchased this release plate to mount my digital audio recorder onto a cheese plate which is part of my camera rig. The cheese plate has standard 1/4"-20 threaded holes. I thought this release plate would have the same standard size screws, but I was wrong. This release plate has some strange size screws probably unique to Manfrotto products. I couldn't mount this release plate to my cheese plate so I returned it. I'm sure it's a great release plate for a unique purpose (specific to Manfrotto gear) but it's not universally compatible with other gear.

I bought this product to add it to the Bogen 322RC2 Ballhead I already own. The tripod head allows two adapters to be attached at the same time. I use the head for a hunting application. The head is used in a horizontal position with the top adapter for my binoculars, and the side adapter for my spotting scope. That way, I have access to both of the optics at the same time. The binos are to locate game, and the spotter to evaluate quality. This allows minimum movement, and I don't have to constantly change my optics. In fact, I now have it set up so that both of the optics are looking at the same thing. Whn I spot an animal, all I have to do is turn my head to see it through my scope.
