I picked these up in addition to my other Nikons because I didn't have a 50mm pair to search for owls yet and wanted to get into more twilight viewing. Being an optics freak and an avid birder, I know that a 7 x 50mm bino will give me a HUGE 7+mm exit pupil and a great twilight factor so they should be far brighter than anything else I have and would allow me to see owls as they come out around dusk. I knew before ordering that they would be big and bulky, but I'm 6'1" tall and 200lbs so I didn't really care about the weight, I just wanted a super bright pair of binocs. I knew the field of view wouldn't be fantastic and I'd be loosing a touch of sharpness as well from my other pairs, but to me it was worth the tradeoff for a super bright image at the cost they were charging.

The thing is, I took all three pairs of my full size Nikons out to compare them to see how much brighter the 7x50's were, and I realized that I could discern no difference in brightness even in dusk conditions when my pupils were dialating. I suspected that the coatings were better on my more expensive pairs, but I thought I'd still see a difference, but didn't. Then all the sudden the quite narrow FOV started getting to me. You really can't find birds very easily with these even though they are only 7x because it's a bit like looking through a cardboard tube. The sharpness is also not on par with the Monarchs or above. When they say "multi-coated" optics, they don't mean all of them! They mean just the objectives and/or the eyepieces. "Fully multi-coated" is a whole other level where every piece of glass is multi coated on both sides. If you are used to Tasco, most entry Bushnells, or have never spent more than $60 on a pair of binocs, you will be impressed since they are still better than what most people are looking through. But if you're like me, then look up the line further.

That being said, I think that you can't ask for a lot at the price these go for, and I think you are probably getting a good value. I am an optics snob unfortunately and couldn't accept the compromises in performance. Optical performance - 3 stars, Value for your dollar - 5 stars, hence my 4 star rating. If you are using them on a boat, I wouldn't hesitate, these should satisfy. Dedicated birders, save your pennies for something better!

      Hope this helps!

Comments about Nikon 7x50 Action Extreme ATB Binocular:

Got these as a Birthday/Mother's Day gift... They are spectacular! Up on the deck of our mountain cabin, I can not only see birds in the trees but with the light that these binoculars gather it allows me to see things back up under the trees in the shady areas. The images are so clear and they look as though they're so close that I can reach out and touch them. Honestly, you can see not only color clearly but also the details of what ever you're viewing. Bright sunny days or even overcast and low light days. I'd recommend these and have with no misgivings, they're great! I'm thinking though that I'm gonna have to break down and get my husband a pair, every time I go to look for them he's using them :o)

Comments about Nikon 7x50 Action Extreme ATB Binocular:

I need to say that this was my first pair of binoculars ever. I did one heck of a lot of research to find ones that would be good for stargazing. A little nervously, I brought them back to my apartment here in downtown manhattan. There was a lightening storm, naturally. But you know what? I can still see dozens of stars, even through all of that! I am so incredibly pleased. People complain about the weight, but it feels like almost nothing to me.

if you're looking for something for stargazing, this is great. One thing which I kept seeing was that 10x binos were not necessarily good for stargazing because the minute hand motion would quickly prove annoying. Seeing a 7x, I undersand exactly what they meant. Don't get the 10x, go for a lower magnification, honest to goodness.

Also, I wear glasses and and so overjoyed that they adjusted so that I can use them without, although it is equally excellent with them on.

Cons- it doesn't come with a free tablet? Actually, the only drawback is that this model does not have a built in tripod mount, so if you want to stick it on a tripod, you need to buy the add-on mount as well as the tripod. But it's lightweight enough that that really isn't a big problem for me.

Comments about Nikon 7x50 Action Extreme ATB Binocular:

Purchased this for my eleven year old grandson. He loves to find birds, and enjoys walking along trails, and now he will even be able to check out the sailboats in the harbor. I especially like the non slip grip. I know he will enjoy this give for many years.[...] Thanks
