Product Highlights

  • Angled Viewing
  • 18-55x Zoom Eyepiece
  • 32-40° Apparent Field of View

Celestron manufactures the Ultima line of prismatic spotting scopes in 65mm, 80mm & 100mm varietals to suit your needs. The larger two can also be had with ED (extra-low dispersion) glass elements, an expensive product which produces a marked improvement in the color fidelity, resolution and edge delineation of the scope's imagery. All the Ultima line are mated to an eyepiece and render views which are both rightside up and laterally correct to the world, making them good for both terrestrial and celestial observing. All Ultimas are waterproof, making them more robust than ever before. Celestron surely is delivering exceptional value.

The Ultimas now offer the choice between 45° angled viewing or straight viewing as you prefer. Most users will prefer angled scopes because they are both simple to use for birds perched high above the viewer as well as easily simultaneously shared amongst users of differing heights. But some will prefer the straight viewing models, for these are much easier to use when hunting down the object of interest in the first place. Straight viewing models are also usually a bit lighter, brighter and less expensive. The choice is yours.

Certain Celestron products include their wonderful "No Fault" warranty coverage, which assures that your binoculars will be repaired or replaced at Celestron's option for as long as you own them-no questions asked! The only requirements on the user's end are to ship the binoculars(at the user's cost) to Celestron with a proof of purchase and a check or money order for $25 to cover the costs of inspection, shipping and handling. This warranty service is valid only for USA and Candadian citizens purchasing from an authorized Celestron dealer.

Built-In T-Mount Threading for SLR Shooting
The Celestron Ultima series feature a T-mount threading upon the eyepiece barrel, allowing your scope to act as an ultratelephoto lens upon your SLR camera (digital OR film) with just the addition of a camera-specific T-mount adapter.

The morning after I got this scope the (angled) Ultima 65 let me watch as a Great Blue Heron a half mile away stalked then speared with its bill and guzzled down a writhing fish. After dark, with Jupiter centered in the field of view @55X, the planet was very sharp with surface banding and four moons easy to see. This spotting scope is well made and has good optics (all Ultimas use BAK4 prisms). There is some pincushion distortion noticeable on straight lines and the inevitable false color at high magnifications. About 15-20% of the outer field of view at high mag. is a bit soft, but I did not find that any of these were so extreme as to interfere with the pleasure of using the 65. I highly recommend this scope for land use and nature study, but it also does well on the moon and brighter planets, and at 18X can be used for scanning the Milky Way. Smallish and light weight, there's no reason to leave this behind when you want to see the world outside up close. A sturdy tripod is necessary for the best viewing, but it can be used handheld at lower magnifications.

I bought this Celestron 65 after first trying a generic Chinese 60mm spotting scope for shooting. I immediately return the junk product as the eye relief was so bad as to be unusable. An experienced competitor advised me to avoid 80mm spotting scopes as he found his too large and a bit cumbersome (albeit with great optics however).

This scope does the job. Nothing to particularly rave or rant about. Optic quality seems decent for the price but the eye relief is poor at anything about 18x. I try to leave it as close to 18x as possible when using at 100yards.

I compared this to a 50mm Bushnell at the range and expected this be quite a bit better but I found them similar. This is not an amazing product for the price but neither is it terrible. If you are looking for middle of the road like I was give it a try. Don't expect to wear glasses and zoom in however.

Comments about Celestron Ultima 65 2.6"/65mm Spotting Scope Kit:

This spotting scope was recommended to me by a long range shooting instructor with decades of experience and the opportunity to use and test all the various scopes his students bring to his school. I was shopping in the $- ranges and when he recommended a scope in the $ range I had to check it out.I haven't had the opportunity to take it hunting yet but my initial impressions are that it is a well built scope that transmits light well...glass is very clear. It is lightweight enough that it shouldn't be a bother humping around. The ergonomics are good, casing solid, coatings and protective material appear more than adequate. The only complaints I have are not isolated to this scope...they are shared by some of the high end ones. First, eye relief could be more. Trying to take advantage of the full field of view with glasses (sunglasses or prescription) would be difficult. Second, a coarse and fine focus knob would be an asset. Coarse to go through from low to high magnification quickly with <1 turn, and then a fine focus to bring in the object in sharp detail.

Bought this for the shooting range. It's very clear out to a 100 yards , that's all the range I have. Works great well worth the money. I've had no problems with it. I've also tested it just looking down the road and 200 plus yards is also clear.

Comments about Celestron Ultima 65 2.6"/65mm Spotting Scope Kit:

I found this scope to be great value for the money. As a 25 metre spotting scope it provides a crisp image at minimum magnification, with a zoom which is 'just right'. As the eyepiece is zoomed in the image gets less distinct but is still very useable at 50 metres. It will also focus clearly to 10 metres.
I am very happy with this purchase.

Comments about Celestron Ultima 65 2.6"/65mm Spotting Scope Kit:

This is a good scope if you can't aford a more expensive one. It works well for viewing birds at a fair distance. You can see a lot of detail at a long distance. The scope is light and it is easy to carry in the bag it came with, and the eyepiece comes in a hard plastic case. The waterproof/fogproof feature is a big plus as well. The little t-mount hook up for DSLR is okay but the aperture zoomed in is too small. Unless you're in direct sunlight at high ISO, the shutter speed will be too slow and you'll get a blurry picture. Besides, the scope is too light to hook a camera to with any amount of stability; it's a neat addition, but not the most useful thing in the world. If it's your plan to use this as a lens, I'd suggest an actual lens, or a heavier scope.

I bought this for my wife's backyard birding and she's delighted. Well-suited to the purpose in the 20-40 yard range without zooming. Eye relief isn't bad, but could be better. Decent for casual celestial browsing as well.

I use this product as a spotting scope to view indoor pistol targets at a range of fifty feet; both for 22 and 45 calibers. I was very pleased with the edge to edge crispness of the scope and overall clarity. The range is poorly lit with fluorescent lighting and I could see a "period" on the score section at this distance. The overall build quality of the scope is very good and the lifetime warrantee encouraged me to "give it a try." My experience with this scope is limited to the above use. I intend to use it out doors to view wild life. Although not a compact scope the image for my use more than compensates for the slightly larger size.
