The angled viewing Ultima 80 3.1"/80mm Spotting Scope Kit from Celestron features a prismatic spotting scope with an 80mm objective.

All models in the Ultima line are mated to an eyepiece and render views which are both right side up and laterally correct to the world, making them good for both terrestrial and celestial observing.  All Ultimas are waterproof, making them more robust than ever before.  Celestron surely is delivering exceptional value.

The Ultima line offers the choice between 45° angled viewing or straight viewing.  Most users will prefer angled scopes because they are both simple to use for birds perched high above the viewer, as well as easily shared among users of differing heights.  But some will prefer the straight viewing models, for these are much easier to use when hunting down the object of interest in the first place.  Straight viewing models are also usually a bit lighter, brighter, and less expensive. The choice is yours.

Certain Celestron products include their "No Fault" warranty coverage, which assures that your spotting scope will be repaired or replaced at Celestron's option for as long as you own tit, no questions asked!  The only requirements on the user's end are to ship the spotting scope (at the user's cost) to Celestron, with proof of purchase and a check or money order for $25 to cover the costs of inspection, shipping and handling.  This warranty service is valid only for USA and Candadian citizens purchasing from an authorized Celestron dealer.

Built-In T-Mount Threading for SLR Shooting
The angled viewing Celestron Ultima series feature a T-mount threading upon the eyepiece barrel, allowing your scope to act as an ultratelephoto lens for your SLR camera (digital OR film) with just the addition of a camera-specific T-mount adapter.

My celestron ultima 80 is used for high power shooting events, specifically across the course matches with positions as 200,300,and 600yds. The overall build quality of the unit is much better than those costing the same or even more. It's sturdy, well put together and carries a great mfg warranty. The optics are ok. I have used much more expensive optics, and sorry this scope does NOT compare.... Not even close ( sorry to all those that say it does). But, for an entry level price it is VERY acceptable and superior to many even at twice the price. .22 cal holes are visible at 200 yds ( provided you have a stable tripod) and scoring disks are easily seen at 600yds without zoom extensively. Mirage IS seen, but is not as easily read as with bight quality optics. For the price of [$] it is an excellent entry level scope that will serve a shooter well until the decision or the cash is available to upgrade. As a bonus, when upgrading you will get most of your money back out of the scope by selling online auction site

Comments about Celestron Ultima 80 3.1"/80mm Spotting Scope Kit (Angled Viewing):

This scope has pretty good glass. Very sharp at 20x to 30x but decreases significantly above 40x. Still acceptable for shooting out to 200 yards. But be warned and remember the tripod attaching lug on this scope does not rotate and you will have to use a tripod with a 3-way panhead in order to set the eyepiece at different angles. This makes the scope unsteady. I have not yet found a tripod that will hold a scope of this size steady if there is any wind or table disturbance.

Comments about Celestron Ultima 80 3.1"/80mm Spotting Scope Kit (Angled Viewing):

This is a good scope for general spotting use; however, be warned that the mounting lug does not rotate. You will have to use this scope with a 3-way pan tripod if you want different viewing angles (such as when seated at the firing range).

      Not the brightest or sharpest

      By Kim

Comments about Celestron Ultima 80 3.1"/80mm Spotting Scope Kit (Angled Viewing):

For the price its ok. It'll give you plenty of magnification. Sharp at 20-30x but field of view is lousy.

40-60x is not so sharp but at least wider fov. Not parfocal so have to refocus after zoom.

For an 80mm its pretty dim. Probably cheap prism and or coatings. An 80mm ED telescope that i had for comparison, even though same aperture, gives me sharper and brighter images. Far more expensive obviously but sets the gold standard.

Comments about Celestron Ultima 80 3.1"/80mm Spotting Scope Kit (Angled Viewing):

This is an update from earlier. I bought this scope to replace a Simmons 20-60x60, and can't believe how much better this one is. I used it extensively in June in Yellowstone National Park for viewing wolves and grizzly bears, some at over 2 miles away. The sharpness was fantastic and had very good low light performance. Even at full magnification, the image was more than acceptable. While in YNP, I compared my scope to some of the much more expensive models, and honestly couldn't see a big difference. Eye relief was very good and did not bother my contact lenses, unlike my Simmons. Highly recommended.

This spotting scope is extremely bright, clear, the definition is awesome, and it's easy to focus! It out performed other brands of scopes at higher, to much higher price points! I could easily see 22 cal. bullet holes at 200 yards and 30 cal. holes at 300 yards in the black areas of a target, and it was an overcast day! I am confident that I could see 30 cal. holes at 400 yards and more, if I find a rifle range that offers that and longer distances.

I use this for taking pictures of mountaintops from my house, and of the moon at night. A sturdy tripod and cable release are a must, as even the movement of the shutter taking the picture causes some movement.

This is a great scope for the price. Decent eye relief. Had a chance to test it out at 60x magnification looking at the moon. The image was really sharp at 60x magnification. I can only give it 3 stars because of the poor quality control by Celestron. The words "Celestron Ultima 80" was upside down on my scope. I did not bother to return it since it doesn't affect the scope.

I've tested it already and it has a great eyepiece, very bright and clear, and easy to focus. It does get some vignetting at 60x but nothing that is a problem. I will update when I get back from my trip in June.

Comments about Celestron Ultima 80 3.1"/80mm Spotting Scope Kit (Angled Viewing):

For a first time telescope user, this one is easy to figure out how to use and has great magnification for the price. The site piece on the side is a bit tiny and tricky to learn how to use. I am overall pretty satisfied with this instrument. It's pretty cool and a high quality piece.

This is a great value for the price. Sharp image; excellent construction. The focus and zoom controls are smooth. The ONLY negative I note is the very restrictive eye relief. Any movement side-to-side or up-down, and you lose the picture. But again, for the money, this is a real bargain (especially compared to my Canon camera lenses). I got a really good look at the moon last night!

This is mainly for casual bird watching, and find the image bright very detailed and easy to use. For a few dollars more i could have been better off with the model that came with a tripod.

Comments about Celestron Ultima 80 3.1"/80mm Spotting Scope Kit (Angled Viewing):

I bought the Celestron Ultima 80 for shooting out to 200 yards with a .223. I wanted to see the holes easily.

I did a lot of research before picking this model. It came down to this or a Kronus of similar specifications. Against white paper background and with Shoot-N-C type targets it's easy to do with the Ultima 80. Against black backgrounds it is a little tougher. .30-cal holes show up much better.

Still, for the price this is an exellent spotting scope. I find it to be well made. I would recommend a sturdy tripod though as it is front heavy but it is well made and is pretty much what I need for that application and the picture is very clear.
