I'm pleased with this pack, for the most part. It's a monster in size, easily holding most of my gear: there's no 'good' place to carry the flash bracket. Though I prefer my Tenba 85 shoulder bag for carrying all my gear, this backpack fills the bill for cross-country hiking. My only real gripe is the add-on pockets: it'd be great to have a built-in strap pocket to carry a flashlight and compass (or GPS if you need that kind of guidance- which would also hold a cell phone) and at least one side pocket for water bottle, though I carry a canteen in the mesh back pocket- which adds to the rearward weight as does the tripod, which makes walking a bit awkward but to be expected. (However, the tripod works well attached to the bottom 'sleeping bag' strap attachment.) It's not designed like a genuine backpack, made to keep weight near the shoulders. There's plenty of room for cameras and lenses, though small items get lost in the inner pockets. Of course, one can purchase outside pockets to strap on, though I doubt they'd be as rugged as built-in are. A good pack all around. Highly recommended, if a bit slow getting gear out of as all backpacks are.

    Expertise: Professional

Problems Encountered: No honest problems as yet- the material and workmanship are top-notch. Minor gripes are just the weight distribution and slow-speed of getting to equipment, average for backpacks, and the computer slot is rather tight, difficult to zip around my Toshiba Sat laptop. It'd be nice to have a more solid shield between body and laptop, also.

Previous Equivalent Item Owned: Canon camera backpack

Items I Recommend: recommend getting a 30D and 70-300 IS/USM lens to carry with it, and at least one additional pocket attachment.

I travel by airplane a lot, but the depth of the pack is an inch or two deeper than it needs to be to carry my Canon EOS 7D with lens attached, a long lens, speedlite flash, and other accessories such as my 15" Macbook Pro, cables, cards, etc. On some planes, it is difficult to get the pack in the overhead bins or under the seat. Otherwise, pack is comfortable to carry, hauls a lot of stuff, and sits up on its own without falling over.

Comments about Tamrac 5256 CyberPack 6 Backpack:

I use this pack all the time whenever I travel and want to take my camera with me. There's plenty of space for a generous amount of gear; enough room to actually hold 70-200mm L lens with the hood attached and attached to the camera! (all without buying accessories) It's comfortable. You can wear it for hours and it won't wear you out thanks to the adjustable chest and waist straps. And it's built like a tank. The "self healing" zippers are a real life saver on the trail. The only downside to this backpack is its size. Be cautious if you do any air travel. Yes it does meet FAA specs for a carry-on but it's still big enough to draw the undivided attention of TSA.

This is the only mid-sized backpack that is 12in wide on the inside. The only thing I would prefer is for Tamrac to make a backpack this size without the laptop sleeve, which would make it thinner overall.

This back pack is larger than I expected. That's not necessarily a bad thing. I currently have a D80 and 5 lenses, plan to add a EOS 5D later this year and two or three Canon lenses. This bag will hold all of that, no problem. I will not outgrow this bag anytime soon. This is a tough back pack that will carry a lot of gear and has plenty of room for accessories. Pockets everywhere.

This item replaced a 48 year old bag. My Canon system is getting to big to carry in the old bag and it was a shoulder bag.

This CyberPack 6 gives me a lot of space.

This bad is very roomy! Lots of ways to make it work for your various gear. Some of the reviews stated that it was large enough for a 17inch laptop; not the case with my HP pavilion though. It would have worked perfectly for all of my camera gear.... but not my laptop. I returned this bag and ordered another Tamrac bag with the side opening. It is fabulous!! I wanted the Cyberpack so I could have a couple more lenses, but will just have to pick what lenses to take!

This pack is for me personally and my first experience has been awesome!!!! Plenty of room comfortable, rugged, easily accessible, and just a smart purchase.

My company has about 17 Tamrac bags, rolling camera bags and other products. Much research has gone into the decision to purchase each product. This back pack is no exception. We are not delicate in our use of any of the camera carrying products. My staff work hard at abusing them, mud hoses right off, dirt and dust vacuums right out easily, baggage handlers haven't been able to destroy them yet and we have managed to use all of them for about 8 years without needing any repairs or replacement.

                        Excellent products ! ! ! ! !

After reviewing the many, many options for carrying my cameras and lenses--photo and video--I selected the CyberPack 6 by Tamrac because of its spaciousness as well as its designed protection of the equipment. I have packed my gear and appreciate the strength of the fabric and zippers, comfort on my back, weather resistance and ability to carry on and stow on the plane. On site, when the need arises to switch cameras and lens, the flap unzips make readily available all the optics and accessories for a rapid and safe change for the next fabulous shot. I am thrilled with my choice.

I recently purchased this bag while on a trip to NYC.

I need something that was pretty much all weather, and thats what I got. The bag is comfortable to wear, even loaded down with lots of gear. The dividers are set up in such a way that i didn't even really have to deviate much from it's original setup.

I walked around NYC in the rain most of the day, and as I expected, my gear was dry when i needed it.

At great bag for those who travel, and have to have a lot of stuff with them.

For decades a large camera bag filled with equipment would be dangling from my shoulder or around my neck as I walked through airports or out to my shooting site. Many times I would also have a laptop case on the other side.

This backpack is perfect for my uses. It holds more gear (two bodies, lenses -- a 200 - 400, an 18 - 70 and a 24 prime -- two backup drives, my favorite filters, backup batteries, two chargers, additional memory cards, a GPS unit and various wires) plus my laptop, power block, mouse and mouse pad. It is as accessible as any front opening photo backpack. The backpack's harness was very comfortable on a three-hour shoot and hike in the National Botanical Gardens on Kauai. The straps are adjustable for large or small people.

I use this backpack to haul all my gear around. Fits several lenses, flash, 2 bodies, laptop, and tons more! Several nifty pockets and hidden places to stash 'stuff'.

The only con I can think of is that for a backpack, its pretty deep. It looks a little silly when I'm wearing it on a dayhike... but if your concern is not having a certain lens at your disposal when out in the field, this should help alleviate that little problem! I'm not sure though, the depth of this backpack may be the same as any other backpack which stores this much gear!

A great bag I've had for 3-4 years. Been around the world with it. Carries a couple bodies, 3 lenses, light meter, flash, laptop and tons of accessories.
                                      Very durable.

Like folks say it's big, heavy and can attract attention of airline staff as carry on.

If you stuff it, it won't fit in the overhead, particularly if you put a lot in the top zippered pocket. Lots of times I pull out the laptop and it goes into the overhead nicely. It might be better if redesigned to be a hair less deep and longer, as long as D2/3 will still fit in depth.

I bought this backpack specifically for traveling to a photography workshop which I was flying to. Although this is a bit heavy when loaded with all your gear and laptop, I was able to get everything I needed for the trip in it. It has lots of great pockets and places to stash smaller gear as well as great interior camera/lens compartments. I would highly recommend this backpack for traveling.
