What I like: It is a very big product. I put my D70 with the 105mm attached, SB-800, 18-70, 70-300, 10-20, filters, and some other small (a lot) stuff, and my laptop with its charger; and still have unused spaces. Whatever I need to shot, I have it in there. It's a backpack to go wherever you need.

What I don't like: It is so big I am always afraid I will have problems at airplanes when trying to get it as carry on, although I NEVER had a real problem. In one trip I had to fight with the carry-on compartiment but ultimately it fit.

A problem I had is that its main buckle get broken, and B&H do not sell replacements :(. Anyway, I contacted Tamrac and they were so nice that they offered me to send me one for free, but they sent me the wrong one, and when I let them know they send me the part again, but wrong again. I still have to contact them for the third time.

Overall I am very happy with it. And this is what I will do: I will use it locally, and I will buy the Cyberpack 6 for travelling. The 6 is a little bit smaller and I am sure it will fit better on airplanes.
Anyway, Tamrac is my brand and I am not planning to replace it.

    Great bag - bad backpack

I own 2 of these bags and without fail both of them had their zippers break within months of each other. The zipper doesn't lock the bag together anymore on either bag.

As a bag, it fits everything you need but a backpack needs to be able to close. I'm stuck here with ~$400 in useless backpacks right now.
If that didn't happen these bags would be great but for the price and the value of their contents, Tamarac didn't put enough work into the most important part. Very disappointed

I needed bag for 2 camera bodies, 8 lens, 2 flash units, and assorted items that you find yourself needing. This bag is MUCH larger than I thought, I was worried that it would be too small. It is well constructed, appears really durable, and is by far the best protection that my kit could have short of a Pelican case.

Comments about Tamrac 5258 CyberPack 8 Backpack:

I ordered the backpack to carry underwater photo gear including lenses, strobes, and ports. I was looking for something fairly large for the equipment that I have to carry. Though it's fairly big and can get a little heavy when full, it fits the bill for what I was looking for. It's very functional, it was easy to adjust to accomodate the equipment I have, and I feel that the photo gear is well protected.

I use this backpack to transport my gear--some photo and research; along with my computer. I only needed some space for my camera so was ample space for books and other research when traveling to town/library. Having room for my computer is a great plus. On returning home I also can carry groceries and other material. It was nice to be able to utilize the extra space since there is enough for the camera and other luggage (removed, as needed the compartments) Very useful, for hiking and the like it travels well; is well balanced and the weight is equal for good distance and comfort. Soon will be traveling and forsee using it for my flights and travels.

Comments about Tamrac 5258 CyberPack 8 Backpack:

I purchased this bag based on reviews here on B&H, which generally were very favorable. On paper it seemed like the perfect bag. However, when it arrived, I realized that it was HUGE. If you want a bag to hold all your gear when you travel, and you don't mind carrying a 50 lb load on your back then buy this bag. For my needs it turned out to be too big. If you load it up full with gear, the bag would be way too heavy. I'm 6 feet tall male and in pretty good shape and I still believe that this bag is way too heavy when fully loaded. I believe a bag this big must have wheels.

For local shooting, I have a great Tamrac Sling bag which suits my needs very well. It is great for a single lens (maybe 2nd lens or a speedlite) event. However not quite enough room for travel. I needed a bag for some airplane travel and hiking/nature photography. Fully loaded, this bag would have been too heavy for airport travel (without wheels) and way too heavy for hiking.

I returned this bag and purchased the Tamrac Evolution 8 and I'm very happy with it for my needs.

Bags are very personal and you really need to feel and hold the bag in person, to really determine if it's going to be right for you.

I bought this bag as a upgrade because I never could fit eveything I needed in my old bag. Now I have space for all my gear, spare batteries, my laptop, and room to spare for more. WIth the added benefit of a dedicated tripod sling on the back, I never have to worry about where I am going to cram something. The best part, as big as this bag is, even fully loaded it feels lighter than my older, smaller bag! After hours of carrying this monster around, I don't feel half as tired as I did before. Plus, the zippers and straps are all very durable and reliable, so no more worrying about anything falling out on the move.

Great for carrying DSLRs - room for 2 bodies, a 300mm lens and plenty of other lenses / flash.

Good separate compartment for my 17" MacBookPro and pockets for many accessories.

Fits easily into Airline overhead lockers.

                  Straps could be more comfortable.

This one is far above the other ones. I will be using my pelican case for something else now. Completely satisfied!

Comments about Tamrac 5258 CyberPack 8 Backpack:

I own 2 of these bags and without fail both of them had their zippers break within months of each other. The zipper doesn't lock the bag together anymore on either bag.
As a bag, it fits everything you need but a backpack needs to be able to close. I'm stuck here with ~$400 in useless backpacks right now.
If that didn't happen these bags would be great but for the price and the value of their contents, Tamarac didn't put enough work into the most important part. Very disappointed

Comments about Tamrac 5258 CyberPack 8 Backpack:

Sure, it might be a heavy bag for one without wheels, BUT you can carry a lot of gear safely and you need a well built bag to do the job. I have two I bought at B&H, and give one to an assistant when I travel with an assistant -- that way we have two carry ons. I use it primarily for transport and as a carry on (although I am planning on getting a rolling bag as my gear is too heavy to lift and carry through miles of terminals.)

No bag does everything. I am glad that access is not easy, as this makes the gear more secure.

For me, the purpose of this bag again, is transport. It is not a bag for shooting. I use sling bags, traditional shoulder bags and on occasion fanny bags. If a camera bag doesn't have a hip belt it is worthless. So all my bags have hip belts and packs have hip belts. A chest strap is a big plus on back pack bags.

I would like to say though, that when traveling by car, I find it convenient to store my gear close by for quick access.

Even though it is a bit cumbersome, it still gets 5 stars because of all the gear it can carry.

A great plus is that I can throw my mac book pro in here if I wish, but when I travel by air I usually carry a smaller backpack made for computers as my second personal item which includes extra clothing and electronics and toiletries.... Instead. I throw extra change light-weight clothes in the padded cyber-pouch in case of emergency.

This is the best backpack for the price I got it.
It has more space than the otherones and its cheaper. I can travel anywhere now with all my equipment in just one bag.
It's made out of a great quality material.
                            I totally recommend it.
My equipment its very well keeped in this backpack.

I'm always hesitant to buy a bag without seeing it first for fear of it not being the right size. This bag is big and roomy and leaves me with a little room to add a lens or two, very happy. I have a Camera body, battery grip, flash, five lens in the bag now, storage and protection will be my main use. I will buy a smaller Tamrac for hiking.
