Just a quick and easy way to put up some small lights, when there is a drop ceiling in the room. Would be a bit nicer if they were a bit easier to fit over the intersections of the ceiling grid - there's more support there. You could use them to hang other things, like mics for example.

I bought these so I could put up a back/hair light for interview videos, without having to carry a large boom stand. They work on thin drop ceilings, but in many corporate office buildings now they have a thicker lattice (about 1/2 inch) and I can't figure any way to make these work. The stud can unscrew, so I may design my own. In any case, don't forget to buy safety cables.

Comments about Lowel CM-20 - Scissor-Mount for Drop-Ceilings:
The only additional thing I'm adding when mounting heavy lights are tie wraps around the attachment arms only as an added level of security. With moving and manipulating overhead backlighting, I'm mostly concerned with accidentally loosening scissor mount and causing it to fall. Tie wraps add that extra level of protection to the video subject.

I purchased several of these for video and photo shoots in various settings with dropped ceilings. The Scissor mounts lock securely on the grid, and have a ring for safety cables (which Lowel sells in 3-packs and I also use). I've hung Lowel Omni lights and a pin-spot from them, and I'm thrilled with the results. You can use regular plant-hook ceiling grid clips to manage the light cables.

we have a little studio, and these help us keep our lights off the floor so we have more room to move around!

Comments about Lowel CM-20 - Scissor-Mount for Drop-Ceilings:
If you have a typical "office" or "classroom" drop-ceilings with a metal grid, this is the best tool to get your lights off the floor and to mount them. Gives your studio much more space to do filming. It's very useful - and please note that they come in pairs.

Comments about Lowel CM-20 - Scissor-Mount for Drop-Ceilings:
Mounting the strobe to our ceiling has made our small photo studio a lot more manageable. Before we would trip over the light stand when we needed to move around. Once we get our extension in it will be even nicer. Our light is currently a little high but it will be nicer with the extension. A little tough to get installed at first working around our built in ceiling lights, but once it was in it was very secure.

Comments about Lowel CM-20 - Scissor-Mount for Drop-Ceilings:
Great for hanging lights from acoustical ceiling supports. The new rod helps when removing mount from ceiling. So much easier to use as a back light than a heavy clunky c-stand. One caution, make sure to look up during your idiot check at the end of your shoot. I've forgotten several of these by leaving them on the ceiling. That's why I'm reordering some now. Fortunately, they are cheap enough not to sweat it if you lose one. Best bang for the buck in my light kit.

Indespinsable for hanging smallish lights from the ceiling especially when you don't have much room to back up and put a light stand. Tough and well made.
